Thank You for the Man You Are Today

Thank You for the Man You Are Today

A Chapter by Ursula Kay Vos
"

A Dedication to Mothers of Sons

"

Meeting your Mother

I see your humor

I see where you get

Your love and kindness

As everyone began to arrive

She introduces me to your Aunt and her friend

This is Jai’s girlfriend she said

Then takes them on the tour.

I hear your Mother telling them

Oh, Ursula, she is fine.

She’s at home here, that’s Jai’s girlfriend.

It was a small and intimate gathering

As we all prepared to eat

Your Aunt and her friend sat in the living room

Your Mother called me to the kitchen

I felt joy and acceptance,

As your Mom called me in

She asks me to help set the table

Adding the final touch

As the final glass is set

And I look up to see

This man who I fell for

Who I now see with his family

I can now see that all I have learned

All that I have come to know

I see that they have come from the work,

The dedication from your Mother

The wonderful woman who brought you to this world

Who took the time to raise you

To make you into the man I know

I cannot begin to replace her

I will never try

I can tell you

That I have always appreciated her

I have always known you

That is why

I am taking this time

To dedicate this poem

To your Mother,

For sacrificing so much

To raise you right

And turn you into the Man you are,

The man I can't seem to get enough of,

The man I will forever Love.

Dedicated to Ms. J., Jai's Mother.  Thank you for raising and sacrificing to make Jai into the man he is today.

Truly beautiful Ursula. As wonderful a tribute as you have given to any in your life. Kowing how you felt before hand and knowing the sheer delight you had in the day makes this poem even more sciltilating ans the words leap from the page and explode like fireworks. Superb. And I've just emailed a friend at Waterstones to tell her to get me a copy of your book

Your words are true. Our mother's teach us kindness and respect. I like the story. I was told by a wise father. Meet the parent to understand the woman. Thank you for a strong and powerful poem with wisdom.

I just love this one. So bright and optimistic and brimming with sheer, unadulterated love. That's why I keep coming back to it

This is really sweet! Ms. Joyce should read this, and I know she'll love you more. Haha. You made the 'meeting-the-future-in-laws' moment sound less nerve-wracking and instead, more exciting. Haha. Great poem, by the way. :)
