Precious Stones of Water

For someone special.

I am

the face of night,

a voice

that cannot lie.

 

A lowly pond

that shines dark and true.

 

Your gaze and your nature

are as water

that fuels the earth.

 

Diamond of ice,

regal,

detached,

and silver as the moon.

 

Pearls of snow

crisp white against the night sky

teaching the mechanics of slope,

lifting me higher.

 

Amber of hailstones

with salty, grousing ways,

the sweetest of all,

a thin veil

over a gallant heart.

 

Defender of my faith,

protector of my virtue,

hero.

I like how you've played with genres and coalesced them into an organic whole. One that moves from nature to the night into the metaphysical and a deep, cosmic love for another. This is similar to the philosophies of the wandering mystics and it is rather engaging to read your work, Verse.

I am most impressed by how original this is . . . the way you pick ideas from nature to describe & compare two people in a relationship . . . many interesting & unusual details to describe the different ways these two people relate to each other, all expressed in artful tones of nature.
