Normalizing Normal

Normalizing Normal

A Poem by Willys Watson

Normalizing Normal

The Bumblebee defies aerological logic

and the Platypus knows it knows what it needs to know.

Giraffes are perfectly content with their upper half

as Marsupials mock all the preconceived notions

and the male Seahorse lovingly carries the unhatched

eggs of his soul spouse in his own pouch until they hatch.

In their world they are the norm.

When the dominate male Crown Fish really wants to mate

he just becomes a female and leaves it up to fate.

The Flounder never flounders justifying it’s eyes

and the Koala Bear does not care it’s not a bear.

Chameleons are always aware that they’re still there

and Aardvarks won’t squawk about having an extra a.

They accept they are the norm.

Migrating Monarchs and Canadian geese jointly,

instinctively, invented G.P.S. and even

Bats taught doctored researchers how to see without sight.

Sloths offered the world the joy of balance and patience

and the Blue-Footed Booby shared beholder beauty.

Gifts they willingly give we consider oddities,

yet Nature thrives in the norm.

Though without advanced brains they accept what they are and

the one thing they seem to collectively understand

is they can’t understand the bizarre purpose of man.

Nature does not kill for sport or immoral income,

nor does it kill to feed the frenzy of religion

or to placate the fragile egos of un-grown.

Normal is not abnormal.
