14. Le Loup-garou

A Chapter by Craig2591
"

Chrissy hosts a slumber party for Emily.

"

“Hello?”

“Chrissy? Bad news, Babe. There's a big order that has to ship first thing in the morning and the night shift guy called in sick, so I have to stay and get it ready to go.”

“How late are you going to be?”

“Hours! I might not get home until midnight.”

“But, tonight is Emily's slumber party!”

“I know. Sorry. We'll have to cancel it.”

“We can't cancel it! Emily's been excited all week waiting for it. She'll be heart broken.”

“You're going to watch over an apartment full of ten-year-old girls by yourself?!”

“There's only four of them. I guess I can handle it.”

“I don't know about that. You know you don't like kids.”

“I'll be alright. Just get done as soon as you can.”

Ian managed to finish his work earlier than he expected and got home by ten-o'clock. He was surprised to find the apartment quiet and peaceful when he walked in. There was no sign of any activity. He walked down the hallway to the bedrooms and peeked into Emily's room. It was empty and dark. He crossed the hall to his own room and looked in. He found Chrissy sitting up in bed reading a magazine. Four ten-year-old girls were huddled in the bed with her as quiet as mice.

“What's going on?” he asked.

Chrissy looked up at him from her magazine. “Well,” she replied, “They were running around the apartment giggling and shrieking like banshees until I thought I was going to blow my top. So I told them that if they calmed down, I'd tell them a scary story.”

He gave her a suspicious look. “You didn't tell them the one about Le Loup-garou, did you?”

She nodded.

Chrissy! That one scared the hell out of me!”

She shrugged.

“Well,” he sighed, “Looks like I'm sleeping on the sofa tonight.”

“Consider yourself lucky,” she responded, “Every time I go to the bathroom, I have to take all four of them with me.”

Admittedly, I don't know what Le Loup-garou is - but it barely matters since it's the girl's reaction that counts.

Part of me wants to see this expanded with Chrissy telling the story, but it also works fine the way it is. I like her punchline, I never understood the female-group-bathroom excursions, but this illustrated at least one reason they have for doing it.

Thank you, Tina. I'm not as good at scary stories as you are.
This made me laugh! I can picture Chrissy trying to go to the bathroom with four girls clinging to her! Great chapter!
