Just like...

Just like...

A Poem by Blue
"

a summer memory

"
I gave you my trust.
You broke it.
Just like how you broke my innocence
ten summers ago
between the numbers of hide-and-seek
behind the bushes
while twilight embraced the earth.
Just like how you embraced me
from my back
as you whispered in my ear
a plea to keep quiet
so as not to be discovered.
I stayed silent.
Just like how you silenced yourself
when you pressed your weight
on top of me
and your hands explored
what's beneath my clothes.
I looked at you.
You smiled.
Just like how you used to smile
during those innocent days
of climbing trees
and chasing rainbows.

You're the older brother I never had.

I ran away.
Just like how I run away
from affections of men,
still scared and scarred...

And summers were never the same again.
Just like me.

This is startling. You are a very vibrant writer. whether purposeful or not your language not only expresses the stark event through the juxtaposition of childhood games and grim adult actions, but through the pauses in your stanzas. "I gave you my trust you broke it... I stayed Silent.... I looked at you You smiled...," between these phrases you leave a lot of spaces between childhood games, and descriptions of the event. Seeing this forces me almost to take in the feeling you convey. I can't truly, empathize because I don't know you as a person. but from what you've written here I see someone with a sort of inner light. your verse and pauses and your language make me see you as an intelligent person, as someone that also has a light. I mean to come on here and share such an experience you are truly brave. If anything, your writing if only for a moment gives people a glimpse into that. I wish to see more of your writing. People who can be as articulate, while mixing in an air of childhood warmth, and nightmarish moment in the same space as you with a rhythmic fluidity, deserve praise. Truly, I stress that you continue. I may be rambling and I may be a stranger, But I find your style and piece a treasure. Please don't stop writing.

Well, it would seem wrong and stupid to say I 'like' this poem, though I will say it was well done and heart-felt. You could sense the pain and shame, the confusion and repressed anger. Not fun to read, but you can't stop reading it. Blue, I think you gave a voice to many young women who have experienced similar situations. It sickens me that this happens so much in this world.

Thank you, Eddie.
Oh, hon...this is brutally raw. I felt it. Whatever shapes us, truly does linger in our very souls for what seems like a lifetime but if we hold onto the scars, we miss out on life, if not careful. Those scars will never go away, but like the lines on a palm, they can alter or fade if we dare accept we deserve life again :) x
