Bees

Bees

A Poem by Alice Poésy
"

Heart Anatomy Poetry #4//She flew from flower to flower in a haste, always on a frantic search.

"

Buzzing,

black desperately trying

to spill into yellow,

praying you’ll be golden forever.

Bouncing from bloom to flower,

in search of yellow

and what you need,

but you don’t always gather

what you want.

And you buzz

and you search, frantic,

bloom to flower

for a home,

a heart,

a pair of arms --

But you don’t always find

what you want.

Author's Note

Alice Poésy
Mid-assignment trickle. Inspired by bees and the connotations of yellow.

I promise I'll be getting to my mail and returning all the love in the reviews soon. I promise, I promise, I promise. I'm just waiting for life to calm down a tiny bit. I promise.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The title drew me in because I adore bees while most think of them as pesky little creatures. Subjectively, they bring balance to nature; pollinating flowers and plants.

CONTENT AND FORMAT

The writer gives a unique perspective on bees; they are personified. Therefore, I envision these insects to be busy "bees" or humans. The description of "frantic" depicts the common life for people. Humans are fools at times the way we rush to work and blindly become machines in the workforce to the point where we bring it home with us. We will do anything for the big pot of honey, other known as money.

Color symbolism is emphasized in your notes and it something I had already thought of. Yellow has various connotations such as hope. However, in this case I perceive it as insanity. It reminds me of "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Gilman. According to psychology, this color induces a state of mania.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

Humanity is constantly in a state of mania or insanity. The speaker concludes that despite our pursuit of perfection and desire, we do not always attain it. There is always something more after you finally complete a goal no matter how simplistic. There is a bit of playfulness to this poem to the point where I would consider it to be a satire of human nature. Thank you for sharing!

sincerely,

Grass is always greener metaphor, although sometimes it's yellow. Coldplay could accompany this piece with Yellow, 'the colors shine for you'. Actually I like Sara Bareilles cover better, it's sotto voce like your poetically whispered yearnings here.

So beautiful Alice. Love the line black trying desperately spill into yellow, paints the hectic buzz of searching superbly. Hope the heart finds the perfect bloom.
ps...bees don't like me. I get stung all the time. I think it's because they know I take honey in my coffee :)

The search can sometimes be more fruitful than the find, indeed. We must always enjoy the journey, even if our pot of gold isn't waiting at the end of the rainbow.

Your poems are eloquent realism and I love them.

"but if you try sometime, you just might find, you get what you need" (Rolling Stones)

your analogy is superbly done here...this poem inspires me...and gives me that buzz of inspiration...
thank you, Alice.

That's a very creative and original take on it. I like how the original image becomes studded with all those almost surreal feeling ideas that create new images in my head and provoke one to think at the same time.

Nice poesy, Alice Poesy. Bees are amazing. They're like little UFOs from the movie Close Encounters of the third kind. They're bright, they hum, they fly! Amazing poem!

I think I just got stung by a very innovative bee!
