A Poem by Alisa Js

your question caught me by surprise
and for a brief moment
time stopped

all is as it once was
splashed against the saga that was you and me
memories rise
I can't deny
the power you had
the power you took, the power I gave away

bobbing across stains of yesterday
I remember the canvas, filled with shadows
colored in pencil, finished in charcoal

all we have left are these skies of September
vague recollections of spectacular
climbing westward as we sit here and speak

I wait now for springtime
summer buds feel lazy
winter waltzed outside the accepted line
while autumn sighed

years from now, will we stop and savor our wine
filled to exact and not one inch more,
as we reach for the oracle
spanning decades to look at the same page
will we remember and treasure us?

Balance.
Perspective.
Regret.
Anticipation.
Drink the wine however. Why leave the bottle in the cellar collecting dust... No memories are found until the palate is wetted...
No regrets.
Enjoyable read here.

Thank you again, my poetic friend from across the very long way.

Alisa ;-0
Very beautiful writing of love and expectations of life together. The memories we carry together if two have the same goals, passions and love for each other. Thank you.

Aloha Alisa - Of course we shall remember it well - each differently though - perhaps like this

I REMEMBER IT WELL
From "Gigi" (1958)
(Lyrics : Alan Jay Lerner / Frederick Loewe)

Honore (Maurice Chevalier) & Mamita (Hermione Gingold)

H: We met at nine
M: We met at eight
H: I was on time
M: No, you were late
H: Ah, yes, I remember it well
We dined with friends
M: We dined alone
H: A tenor sang
M: A baritone
H: Ah, yes, I remember it well
That dazzling April moon!
M: There was none that night
And the month was June
H: That's right. That's right.
M: It warms my heart to know that you
remember still the way you do
H: Ah, yes, I remember it well

H: How often I've thought of that Friday
M: Monday
H: night when we had our last rendezvous
And somehow I foolishly wondered if you might
By some chance be thinking of it too?
That carriage ride
M: You walked me home
H: You lost a glove
M: I lost a comb
H: Ah, yes, I remember it well
That brilliant sky
M: We had some rain
H: Those Russian songs
M: From sunny Spain
H: You wore a gown of gold
M: I was all in blue
H: Am I getting old?
M: Oh, no, not you
How strong you were
How young and gay
A prince of love
In every way
H: Ah, yes, I remember it well

Time moves ever so quickly and the question this work considers should be asked by young love. Will (We) they be content sitting side by side when their bodies are old and physical contact is limited to holding hands as the sun goes down on the day and their lives.

A very nice piece of work and thought provoking.

~~ i like this poem, alisa... ~~ it triggers many thoughts in my mind about what i thought was love and what i ultimately know is love... (~~ the same actually also applies to what i thought was friendship and what i now know about it...) ~~ and i tend to think that... that which is good... tends to last for quite a while... provided we do all that's in our power to cherish it and preserve it... but then i am basically a rational slogger... so i think like one... ~~ i don't believe in myths or miracles or mystical occurrences...
