Beyond Our Art

Beyond Our Art

A Poem by Laz K.

The vicious beasts of passion

Raging within we may try and tame

Till behind our narrow, cold eyes

We kindle a dim light of docility

We may heal the desolate

Stark desert of our mind so that

A remembrance of abundance

May take root therein once again

All this and much more we may do

But to fuse the fractured

Fragments of a broken heart

Is beyond all our art

yet we never give up trying, do we?

we write and write and write but the fracture does not heal....and we become detached.
When I first started writing, I was too attached emotionally to my writing and it was pretty bad stuff...I only improved when I was able to distance myself from myself and my words, enough to actually not become my art....or maybe it improved because I became what I write but distanced from the heart of me.

This is a beautiful poem and I feel it deeply. I do disagree with the sentiments in the final verse (if I have understood it correctly - please forgive me if not) simply because I think my heart has been put back together through poetry / writing. Even other's writing can have a profound effect on my psyche and I think the fragments of my heart are nearly pieced back together!

All this and much more we may do
But to fuse the fractured
Fragments of a broken heart
Is beyond all our art

Thank you for this beautiful and profound poem and for making me think.

Your powerfully stated message suggests to me that there's a significant difference between living within our smoothly crafted words . . . and slogging thru real life. It's nice to be a poet so we can pretty up all the s**t called life (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
