swallowed

upon reading the news ...

Belly full,
she swam,
graceful still,
but a pup
in an ocean cold
and blue ...

She remembers
the day
the two legged things
tagged her
and threw her
back into the sea

The spot
aches today
with the memory --
the only thing
she fears,
is them ...

Suddenly, a whisper
a whoosh,
and it's all but done --
he drags her
and her thoughts,
into the depths.

Blood and gnashing
teeth it's over
before it began --
swallowed; 
she's in his belly
the apex predator ...

And for once,
the ones
who tagged her,
have something to fear ...

A news report on a shark tag washed up on a beach -- something that eats 9 foot Great Whites and swallows them whole ...

Yeah, I vote Megaladon -- really, it's just a big shark -- so the scientists debate, how big does a big fish have to be to be called prehistoric Megaladon -- sharks as big as 50 feet have been sighted off South Africa -- yet, supposedly, it's just a big Great White -- well, isn't that what Megaladon is?

Well I see by your author's notes what inspired it, but before I read it I thought of a young girl fresh in the adult world learning quickly that there is no such thing as a fairytale.

Yes, it could be taken that way, and that is kind of my intention ... but I am absolutely fascinated by the huge beast that could swallow a nine foot shark whole. Mincing words and saying Megaladon does not exist still, it's just a bigger shark ... what is the difference, anything that can eat a nine foot shark whole is an apex predator in my book ...
