The creak of an empty pew

The creak of an empty pew

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

"
The church listens
to the creak of the
empty pews
each Sunday.

Perhaps they
will soon
convert her
to another spa.

The reasons
for her being
were lost in
translation

from text
to pulpit
to bended
knee.

The purpose of church from New Testament to modern day believers has continuously evolve over the years. It solely once main role and purpose was to elevate Christ, edify its congregations and evangelize the community. That has change over time when its role and pulpit focus more on nickle and noses and increasing its converts numbers. Hence it became a haven of entertainers looking for someone to entertain than reform or transform.

You used very few words here KLG but the substance and train of thought were never lost.

Thank you for your kind words. I am in the midst of organizing and several more works will be added .. read more
Faith is how and what one lives.. not the name or church of it. Faith is the holding of something dear and good, not written screeds or rules. Surely. Whether we like it or not, whether we agree or not, belief in Something or Someone better than Man is what keeps one's inner light shining - or whatever you like to call it. I come from an RC mother and an agnostic doctor father, went to convent school, have friends of just about every faith.. and love and respct that - tis really special to me.

Churches are what they are, influenced by their past when the Church was Master of the spirt. Now its a multi faced Goodness that opens the building door and lets in the congregation. In this desperate age maybe it has to be, needs to be. Perhaps?

Have done it again, spewed forth and said little or nothing about your and your friend's posts.. but perhaps my excuse is that you've both inspired opinion and that's what matters... Perhaps?

Thanks, you are an interesting person to get to know.
Religion is the way to find answers to those questions which human being seek for their soul and life... But the views of religion have changed for some people who use it for their own purpose, I really like what you said here... The way handful of people using religion for bad purposes, one day it might end the truth and greatness of religion... Such a true write... Very well done...

Sincerely
Dhiman

Your very welcome:)
Interesting when one looks up the dictionary definition of the many and varied types of religion in this world; then at the word christian; which stands alone as being defined as more than simply a religion.

I am of a mind that whatever their faith, good people will always act in a kind and christian manner to others, and I thus decry religion and instead promote decency and respect for all of humankind. At least It would be a start!

As for those empty pews, for so many today they are little more than an arcane irrelevance.

Not very religious myself, quite like empty churches though. Sort of like other people going to church, maybe just to inspire me to go. You are right, Churches do seem to become discos and such. But I suppose in a way, it's god way of getting through to the young.

I have just read 'bricks' at the same time as this. Both poems are quite moving and hold a truth that is so often disguised behind the man made add on engineering; that in my view, holds no purpose other than to further the ambition and influence of the various religions and their leaders in this divided world.

Simple faith is the key.

You make that sound so normal. Thanks.
I like this KL. As a church going Baptist who was once an agnostic I can appreciate this. Check out a song by Bobby Darin from the sixties called 'Sunday"
