I often think of my own end. It is hard not to feel the hand of time on me. Life has a way of wearing us down. I have outlived my own predictions by many a year. I once thought I would surely meet the end by the time I was thirty. I shall have to console myself with the thought that I might just live to be old lol.

to wake to face another day" This is genious as is the rest of this piece, Always a joy to reada your work but to see it fro a lightly darker perspective than you usualy write is incredible. Been wonderin how your poetry would read with a darker tone to it, now I know that it reads with an ominious note yes but still your positive message remains. It's like a stor cloud with a silver lining, only it's a silver cloud with a grey shadow. Just awesome my friend...

What is sad for me is in the loss of my own dreams are all part of the plan of life. It is the child who matters not me. And in him I find my own purpose. If i can give him a boost on his own dreams Looking past my own we both win. In his joy and happiness is my own. Thank you.

Great testimonial to the process we go through if we live long.
I love Bob Seger, though, a good song by, Death Cab For Cutie, I'll Follow You Into the Dark, would also hit the mark.

It's funny, each person has their own thoughts and perceptions on aging. I am a strange one, especially for a woman, because I love it. I embrace it, and I am sure I will live to a hundred (and want to) unless I get hit by a bus, that is. Accepting it and moving forward, especially thinking of one's children, grandchildren etc., a strong piece.

Nice work tate, an emotional piece, I have often felt like that too, but we find something to keep us going, for me right now it's my grand daughter, so I guess I have a few years on you....

It is a hard reality we face...seeing our own mortality in the lines on our faces and the aches in our bodies. I feel this myself often...wondering where that vibrant carefree girl went. Once i dreamed of being a journalist and traveling the world or writing that novel which would shake up the literary world. But I was also in love with the idea of marriage and that white picket fence. Now my three oldest children are on their way and I have grandchildren. Suddenly I wonder are those dreams gone..did I miss the boat completely. Sigh...
This is an amazing poem...full of emotion and contemplation..

Sexy cowboy had his heyday, then time takes its toll Tate. We reflect often as we get older, and hopefully wiser, this one hits a tender note for me.
Move over papa, it's the kids turn to sow their wild oats. ;-)

Deep and poignant reflections, Tate. Perhaps the 'good old days' weren't so good after all, especially when we will have to face our souls. Until then, carry on and keep writing!

I've thought my number up before. Not recently though. No one's tried to kill me in a while now. It would be comforting if part of me wasn't still waiting for it. Good poem as always Tate. You're the master of mid life reflection

Thanks Mark Oh I bet when the end comes we will welcome it lol
Yes I used to think that too, when younger I could never imagine being 30 or even 40! We live on through our children and that makes getting old a little more bearable.
