Poetry

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Poetry and I laughed to see what with her beauty she had done We sat under an umbrella while we both waited for the sun

"

Poetry had once walked with me

held to my heart when I was sad

Helped me mend from the pain I penned

brought comfort to sorrows I had

Poetry watched my heart shiver

gave me a blanket for the cold

Held my head while lying in bed

made me wish to live to be old

Poetry then danced the night away

to entertain this sullen heart

Both cried to the tale, I tried

from life's wisdom she did impart

Poetry was my only friend

as rain poured upon hallowed dreams

Lessened the toll on my soul

lent me comfort or so it seems

Poetry offered me her hand

as we danced around the pouring rain

Washing away in just one day

what poison wreaked from months of pain

Poetry and I laughed to see

what with her beauty she had done

We sat under an umbrella

while we both waited for the sun

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
My darkest days were comforted by the poetry they inspired.
One of my favorite poems is this one. It tells the tale of how pain is so relative to our age and circumstance
Softened by Time's consummate plush,
by Emily Dickinson

Softened by Time's consummate plush,
How sleek the woe appears
That threatened childhood's citadel
And undermined the years.

Bisected now, by bleaker griefs,
We envy the despair
That devastated childhood's realm,
So easy to repair.

Such a strong dictation of what poetry means to those who create it. Completely the truth, the comfort and joy of such a thing that we may give birth to that shall never judge us, ever. In a world where nothing makes sense, we can create a map through our words and be cradled by our emotions. Bravo!

Poetry has a certain effect on people. It can be closer than the best of friends because it will never grow old, never stab you in the back, never break your heart. You did a miraculous job capturing that. Great job.

Enjoyed this write on poetry and can relate to it on different levels. Very talented write although I must admit the music this time combined with the picture was distracting from the lines. Maybe because I have a tendency to be distracted. Over all it is another good write.

Your personification of poetry brings such a beauty to her form and flow... The delight that words can bring us, lifting us from our despair... giving us hope to carry on... Here you powerfully convey this depth of emotional experience. Wonderful write!

My first thoughts were: this is a smashing poem.
The relationship between being and his/her poetry as a living organism capable of providing succour and sharing joy as well as pain is a good honest piece if introspection from you. I wish i had thought of it.
The tone throughout is sad yet happy; as one is when sharing bad times that one knows will be overcome - jointly.
May your poetry stay with you always.
Well done.
Alex.

Poetry watched my heart shiver
Gave me a blanket for the cold...

I tried to write poems growing up, but the grown-ups made fun of them and told me only crazy people wrote poetry. They said poetry was foolish; those who read or wrote it were wasting their time. So I switched over to prose and now that's all I can write.

Yet poetry touches you where you live. It makes you understand just what it is you feel. Looking back, I realize that was the problem for these poor folks. They liked being numb. I read poems here and there, and did my best to memorize them. I still remember a couple from the backs of herb tea boxes. So although I don't have as much experience with poetry as your other reviewers, yes, this poem speaks to me of poems that did become part of me: a lake-shore before a pastel sunrise, snow shimmering in the sun. Poetry without words, mine to keep. Emily Dickenson, Omar Khayyam and his Rubiyat, the tea boxes: poetry written down, mine also. Like S.W. Scraggs, I thank you for telling me about this poem. Now there is another one in my heart.

A very enjoyable poem to read Tate. I can honestly say, if it were not for poetry, I would not be here today! And I don't mean at writerscafe. Poetry, either to read or write, has the most amazing soothing affect upon the soul. A truth that heals us, is our inspiration. A pleasure to read, and expressed so poetically.

Smiling at you,
all because of poetry

Whenever I'm unable to express the pain I feel I get a pen and a piece of paper. Writing poetry is more calming then anything else. It can be just what you need to clear your mind. Poetry to me is like my own personal therapist. A beautiful poem that I thoroughly enjoyed. I also happen to love the song as well. Thank you for sharing.
