Soul Mates

Soul Mates

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

So many lifetimes come and go between ill spent youth and the grave Hopes and dreams of generations Are the memories we all save

"

How many times have I met you

in the strangers that passed me by

Were you the one that touched my coat

the friend that once kissed me goodbye

How often have we stood in line

just to watch loved ones go to war

Then brushed away the tears of hope

as they ran off to join the Corps

Were you the one whose heart had ached

when my ship drifted out to sea

The foundered soul whose anchor broke

the one whose dreams had yearned for me

Are we destined to always be

just passing strangers in the night

Whose ebbing flowing tides of love

never met when the time was right

So many lifetimes come and go

between ill spent youth and the grave

Hopes and dreams of generations

hold the memories we all crave

Perhaps I'm just the little child

with a heart that once broke in two

Who walks the well-worn streets of old

searching for memories of you

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
Don't we all wonder if another is the one for whom we were meant?
How many lifetimes must we pass by before our soul finds it's hearts desire?
This was for the green eyes cased in Honey Hue, that I once knew.
May she find this dream to be her own .

This piece simply makes me swoon in the ideals of such times. This is by far, one of my favorites. Tate, you have donr it again, made me simply have to stop and stare at the beautiful scene you have laid out here. "Are we destined to always be,
just passing strangers in the night" Even for a moment to pass by one so precious, it would be worth a lifetime. I can nearly hear the brass band in the distance.

A piece for every age. Powerful, dramatic and clean. Not a word out of place, nor an emotion not triggered. Faultless and the sort of poem and imagry that stays with you a very long time

This is so sweet. :) I like the idea of soul mates. The thought of there being only one special someone is something I find very romantic.

This was a beautiful piece of writing. It takes me to many moments in time when i wondered "is he the one?" The incredible search and seeking for that one soul that is meant just for you. What a long journey it is....so worth it, though, if, in the end, you are successful, hopefully before too many lifetimes pass.

Brilliant poem. A true romantic.

The elegance of your writing is truly resounding as your words echo in my ears even as I finish reading. I love the very thought of this poem, the way we usually feel so incomplete as if our mere existence hasn't found it's meaning yet. I definitely love the way you told such a complex idea in just a number of lines without missing a rhythm. Great Poem, simply brilliant.

Keep Writing. ^___^

So touching and profound...makes you realise no matter what era we live in we all have the same feelings, emotions...no generations separate us from being human.
An interesting question you pose re the search through lifetimes for souls desire...how many had the chance and let it slip for want of material things...a thought provoking write beautifully presented. :)
