Cradle of Humanity

Cradle of Humanity

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

How is it that the continent from which we all must have come Is only now finding freedom out from under a despots thumb

"

In the twenty first century

freedom looks to finally find

The cradle of humanity

come to test the ties that bind

How is it that the continent

from which we all must have come

Is only now finding freedom

out from under a despots thumb

We have surely come full circle

circumnavigating the world

Bringing us back where we began

while enlightenment is unfurled

The masses cry out for relief

they ache for the chance to breathe free

They want self determination

all deserve it as much as me

We lend our hearts to Africa

let them hear voices cry aloud

That they may know we weep for them

in suffering they may stand proud

Oh my gosh, Tate. I could not love this piece more! Out of all the nations, Africa has a very special place in my heart. I came incredibly close to joining the peace corp several years ago because of my passion for the people, culture and what they suffer daily. What is sad, is the pictures we see in National Geographic, the images of crying children that flash across our television screens, is the truth. At times our eyes do not betray us and what is happening every moment in Africa lives with me. Illness, starvation, slavery, persecution, murder...the list goes on and on. Incredible poem, Tate. Really, really, really.

Thank you for a wonderful work, the people of the proverbial cradle of civilization deserve self determination. Every human being deserves the right to breath free.
Please say a prayer ffor the unaccounted for, a young poet I know in Tripoli has dropped from sight, it does not look good.

I know a lot of reporters from the old days, from many countries, what is happening in Libyia and Bahrain is far worse that what we have been shown. The oil glutton nations, of which the US is one have propped up tyrants and despots for too long, all for cheap oil. The time has come to pay the piper.

Hi Tate,

This was nicely done, and of course so topical. But the writing even seemed beyond your normal skill, and as always, the sentiment is beyond question.

This is a good one, Tate, and one that was deeply enjoyed. Let us all join you and wish the best for the middle eastern countries that are now testing the possibilities of moving more toward freedom. Out own history shows this is not an easy path, but this is a path that is of the highest desirability.

Very best regards,

Rick

Very nicely composed, my friend. It is also a very good observation. It gives rise to many questions. Such as, to where will they grow from here? And, if humanity sprung from there, what shall spring from what is happening there now? They started the begining of mankind - will the signal the end of it?
It is one thing to write nice poetry - it is even greater to compose one that sparks a call to insight. Good work!

These feelings from the heart
A beauty we can start
To see blossom in winds of change
Let the truth be the re-arrange

It feels like your works are gaining new strides... excellent!
