Cradle of Humanity

Cradle of Humanity

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

How is it that the continent from which we all must have come Is only now finding freedom out from under a despots thumb

"

In the twenty first century

freedom looks to finally find

The cradle of humanity

come to test the ties that bind

How is it that the continent

from which we all must have come

Is only now finding freedom

out from under a despots thumb

We have surely come full circle

circumnavigating the world

Bringing us back where we began

while enlightenment is unfurled

The masses cry out for relief

they ache for the chance to breathe free

They want self determination

all deserve it as much as me

We lend our hearts to Africa

let them hear voices cry aloud

That they may know we weep for them

in suffering they may stand proud

May they find peace and freedom.

Oh my gosh, Tate. I could not love this piece more! Out of all the nations, Africa has a very special place in my heart. I came incredibly close to joining the peace corp several years ago because of my passion for the people, culture and what they suffer daily. What is sad, is the pictures we see in National Geographic, the images of crying children that flash across our television screens, is the truth. At times our eyes do not betray us and what is happening every moment in Africa lives with me. Illness, starvation, slavery, persecution, murder...the list goes on and on. Incredible poem, Tate. Really, really, really.

I love everything you write.I like your music better when there is no words.I think I feel the poem without the music.

Freedom...isn't it peculiar that in a modern world we are still fighting to be free...so many are seeking to be free of that yoke that holds humanity down, a world enslaved within those chains held by those who can only think of themselves and their greed and lust for power...whether it be Africa, the Southern Americas, the Orient, or any place on this Earth...the people are crying and dying to feel that Freedom that eludes us...

nice work Tate...

I have love Africa myself too, due to a lot of reasons. But this poem's message, it goes out to all the countries in distress. Though it's sad to see damages to both people and the nation due to calamities, it's also a breath-taking to see how all other countries, organizations and individuals rush in to aid them. Always good to feel Love and hope.

Keep writing.

I have always found your work here to be interesting and you as a writer one who is in touch internally and aware externally. Social issues are a passion that you rule over and that is a blessing to us the readers.

The events in Africa are still fresh and maybe it hasn't all sunk in with me yet to be able to verbalize it completely. I feel your poem has done more than that and it is excellent.
