A Chapter by barda421

“So I’ve got a question?” Katlin asked Sarah as she put a denim shirt back on the rack

        “What is it?” Sarah said

“Why don’t you talk to Jason or Derek much?” Katlin asked

“Well when you’ve trained with the kings of the underworld, you would understand why I don’t talk to guys to much.” Sarah said

“Well, I guess that makes sense…” Katlin said as she looked as some pink and blue shirts

        “Hey Angel, how’s this?”

Angel looked at her, then back at her book.

“Guess that’s a no.” Katlin said as she put the shirt back on the rack

“Why does she wear headphones all the time?” Sarah asked

“She likes to listen to very loud music, try thinking your whole house with a surround-sound blasted to max volume.” Katlin explained

“She is part Banshee so I can understand, but why can’t we hear any of it?” Sarah asked

“Well, because it's specially made for her, let’s say you wanted to hear it, you would have to unplug the cord connecting to the ear piece, but even then it’ll feel like an earthquake.” Katlin explained

“Remind me not to ask to listen to her music” Sarah said

Katlin just laughed at that remark.

“So I’ve got a question, do you know who the next teacher will be, because the little mishap that happened at the magic class screwed up my schedule.” Katlin said as she showed Sarah her new schedule

“Yeah, don’t worry,” Sarah said “seems like we have the same teacher’s now,  the Teacher's name is Daedalus

“Like the greek inventor?” Katlin asked

“Yep,” Sarah said “and it looks like it’s time for his class!”

Sarah felt a tug on her shirt, and saw Angel holding a shirt with singing minions

“Okay, I’ll buy this, but it’s time for next class.” Katlin said

The outside of the building looked like a church, but with a Giant tall clock in the front, but the shell of the clock was made of glass and you could see all the gears turning. The doors were solid bronze with a big green on it. When she got inside, her mind couldn’t comprehend what was happening.

The whole place was a Designers heaven, because there were papers scattered everywhere, on the walls, on the ground, even the ceiling had papers stuck to it. Inventions were also scattered about, some looked like animals, people, and machines. Other inventions were either missing a few pieces, or were barely made. What also made her mind wander around at a million miles an hour, was the three foot tall robots rushing around at five hundred miles an hour. They were moving inventions from one place to another, making and destroying new creations. Saying stuff like “This needs a better circuit board, or, I need more bolts here”. In the Center of the entire first floor, were work tables. She saw all the kids start taking a seat and started muttering things about the man. The man was working at forty different laptops, bouncing back and forth between each one. Even though the classroom was loud, she could still hear the man muttering to himself. She asked Sarah if she could take Angel, to the work table Jason and Derek were sitting at while she got the teacher.

As soon as she touched his shoulder, she wished she didn’t. He turned around, and the first thing she saw were the baggy bloodshot sea green eyes, his face was pale, and his hair was a old man grey mop with a pair of reading glasses in it. He looked like he hadn’t slept in years. He looked like he was suppose to be thirty, but his face said seventy. He wore a simple orange mechanic’s outfit, but as soon as he put his screwdriver in his suit, he pulled out a three meter ruler. This guy seemed like a little kid who plays games all day long, while drinking Expresso’s 24/7.

“May I help you?” Daedalus asked

“Yeah, um...class is about to start.” Katlin said

“Ohh, is it now,” Daedalus said as he stared off in space “That right I’m teaching a bigger class, because Hecate wanted to play with the vessel for the Devil, and she screwed up the schedule.”

“Yeah...wait what did you say about the last thing?” Katlin said

“Not an important matter!” Daedalus said as he waved off the subject “ Take a seat, Mrs. Dawn.”

        “How’d…” Katlin began

“Albert please take Mrs. Dawn to her seat.” Daedalus said as a little robot came from nowhere and took Katlins hand

“This way please.” Albert said as he lead Katlin to Jason and the others

“Wow, you look like a ghost, you okay?” Jason asked

“It’s nothing!” Katlin snapped as she sat between Derek and Ange

“Now class, Listen up!” Daedalus said “My Name is Daedalus and I’ll be your teacher for the next few hours, Thanks to Hecate's incompetence, I’ll have to explain the things she didn’t try to mention. First of all, Magic is a tool and a weapon, You can use magic to build and destroy. But Magic comes in all shapes, sizes, and dimensions. If you have great control over magic you can make your own personal weapons, swords, shields, guns, etc. Doesn’t matter, but that is what my class is for, I help you determine your class, and see what type of Meister you’ll become.”

“You have your Five Basic Meister classes, Earth, Air, Water, Fire, Lightning. Then you have your Four Rare Classes, Number One Magnetism, Number Two Shadows, and one of the rarest class is called Dimension.” Daedalus explained

“What’s the Dimension class?” asked one of the front row students

“Glad you asked, a Dimension class is quite unique, because whoever owns this class, owns their own Dimension they control. Like they can control the atmosphere, temperature, what grows, and what lives there. They can also make this pop out of nowhere, Like making wall of anything come out of nowhere, or make a neverending chasm!” Daedalus explained

“Woah, wait a sec...you missed one.” Derek intervened

“I did?” Daedalus asked “Let me think…” He started counting his fingers “I guess I did, well there is one class that is so rare you wish you never had it. It’s called the Evil class!”

“Okay, I’m seeing a little pattern here...All the classes are based off of different elements, but how is Evil an element?” Derek asked

“Good question, Evil lives in everybody. Everyone might have a sliver of evil within them, it’s what makes us do things we regret, like stealing, lying, everything that would be considered wrong. Now what happens when that sliver of evil turns into on nasty ball of evil?” Daedalus asked

“Well, I guess that would make you Darth Vader!” snickered one of the students

“Gods, I hate sci-fi, but yes. The Jedi Anakin Skywalker turned into the evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. That Slither of evil grew inside of him until he did something he couldn’t take back, so he lost control and gave over to the dark side.” Daedalus explained “Now the reason why Evil is an element, is because Evil is everlasting it can never truly disappear, Where there is Light, Darkness always follows! When people have so much hate, misery, and regret within them, they get put in the Darkness class we try to push them from the dark path, and help them back to the path of the light.”

“Okay, I have a question,” Jason asked “How are we put in these classes, and can we have more than one class like for example, I belong in the Fire, Earth and Lightning class, or is it just one class per person?”

“Another excellent question!” Daedalus exclaimed “Ten Points for the boys asking the questions! Now it is very common for people to have more than one Class, but we search for what you're stronger at, for example, You may be able to use Fire, Earth, and Air, But you seem to produce stronger Fire in the Fire class then you will with the other two. Then when we figure out what your stronger at, we help hone your skills in that class, and help you hone your skills in your other sub-classes.”

“Ok, that’s a lot of information…” Derek said as he scratched his head

“This was suppose to be Hecate’s job to tell you this, but trust me once you get use to it, it won’t seem like a lot of info in the brain.” Daedalus said “Now for the other question, That’s simple, I’m going to take one student at a time up stairs and test them on these…” as he pulled out a clay ball

“What’s that?” Caster asked from the other side of the room

“It’s a creation I made that can help discover your class, don’t laugh, But I call them…” Daedalus began as he lifted it up in the air “JUDGEMENT BALLS!”

“I will have Nine of these Clay balls that will change when you focus on it, for example, if you bring your hand out and hover it over the ball, it will burst into an element. Like lets say you belong in the fire class, it will burn bigger and brighter while, let’s say your earth class side, will harden a bit and not a lot, understand, okay, let’s get started.”

After waiting an hour and a half, it was finally her turn to see which class she was more powerful at. When Daedalus called her name, she got up and followed Daedalus up the stairs.

“So I’ve got a question, How do you know my last name?” Katlin asked

“Because I do research on all new students that come at this school, Mrs. Dawn Next in line for the Five Great Families.” Daedalus said “Now I’ve got a question, why were you surprised when you heard I was the teacher?”

“It’s not that I was surprised, it’s just you were mortal in the stories my maid use to tell me,” Katlin said “and how did you know I was surprised?”

“Now didn’t the headmaster already tell you, not to believe in those fairytales?” Daedalus said as he opened the door “now for the second part, that’s confidential. Here we are.”

The room opened up in a small 13x10 box and in the middle of the room was a table, and on the table were nine clay balls that Daedalus had shown everyone. Daedalus shuffled his way to the other side of the table so he was facing her.

“This room was made small so your life energy wouldn’t leave it, and it’s better for when you concentrate on the clay balls, but you already knew that didn’t you.” Daedalus said

“Yeah, my maid said that this might happen if Hecate wanted to get careless with her new students.” Katlin said

“So all I need you to do is place your hand over each one, so I can see how strong you are at each element.” Daedalus said “So if you were listening you would already know that.”

“Yeah, okay let’s do it then.” Katlin said as she put her hand over the first one on the right

It was exactly hard because her friend/maid had taught her some tips that would help her. Breathe in and out slowly, and try leaving your mind blank from everything except the one thing you're concentrating on.

When she was done with all nine clay balls, Daedalus did the weirdest examination she’d seen any teacher do. The First clay ball was made of air, so he inhaled it and lost all his breath.

“Need improvement on your Air class,” Daedalus said once he caught his breath

Then he went to the next one which was water, this time he drank it.

“Saltwater for you to be perfect in the Water class you need to have a mix of flavors, changing between Saltwater and Freshwater. Needs improvement.”

Next was the Earth clay, he brought out what seem to be a laser gun.

“You might want to get behind me.” Daedalus said as turned it on

After I got behind him, he fired. The Clay ball heated up but didn’t burn or crumble to dust. After ten seconds Daedalus stopped and grabbed the clay ball and threw it at the wall.

“Well then, it seems like you might have a winner” Daedalus said with a grin

After that it all the classes ended the same as the Air and Water classes. My Fire couldn’t Heat a s’more, or Santa Claus could still find his way with his compass because I had no magnetic field. Once he was done observing all my class attempts, he gave me a brown badge to put on my arm.

“Being an earth class isn’t bad, now let’s get downstairs so I can review more students” Daedalus said as he started to shuffle around the side of the table.

After another hour or so, the last few people found out their class. Everyone were disordered with different colors.

“Now that everyone has their Arm-band, I’ll need everyone to group together that have the same color arm-band and pile out in different directions. After a few minutes of people pushing and shoving, everyone were set into their groups. Angel had to go to the White Arm-band side because she belonged in the air class, Sarah went to a small group of Purple-band people that belonged to the Shadow class, and finally Derek and Jason were in a small group of people who had the color of white and Black. She could also see Caster within the group too.

“You have many different Meister classes to choose from, you will be learning each of these classes from Ares, but just like your element classes you’ll excel at one but will be weaker in the others.. For example if you like to practice with mid-ranged weapons you’ll belong in the saber class, but if you practice with long ranged weapons you’ll belong in the Archer class.” Daedalus said “There are six different Classes, You have the Saber, Archer, Lancer, Hunter, Assassin, and the Fighter class.”

“Seems simple enough!” Derek said with a smile

“The thing is, I’m not the one to teach you these things, Ares will do that tomorrow.” Daedalus said “So for those who haven’t practiced Magic or these six classes I urge you to do minor jobs that don’t require too much force.”

“Sounds great pops, so when will class be over?” Derek asked with a yawn that followed by Sarah and Jason smacking him upside the head

“Well, I was just finishing up, so I give all of you permission to leave, I have some matters to discuss with the Headmaster and the other teachers.” Daedalus said as walked to his study room

“What time is it?” Katlin asked as they left the building

        “Five o’clock” Derek said

“Well, I’m thinking we should wait just a little longer before going on jobs because You and Jason don’t really know too much about our world yet, and the only people who have any amount of magic or combat training is Sarah, Angel and I.” Katlin said

“Well, that is true” Jason said “I think you're right, I need just a slight more knowledge on what we have to face before we go out on jobs.”

“Fine, if you say so…” Derek grumbled as he hung his head

“Well, I think I might go do one anyway” Sarah said as she bent her back “I’m getting a little sore from not doing anything.”

“Keep bending like that!” said a guy who passed by whistling

        “Keep walking jerk-wad!” Jason said

“Wow, nice counter attack.” Derek said sarcastically

        Jason just rolled his eyes

“Well, I’m going to go back to the apartment and go do something productive there!” Katlin said “I have a feeling you two have different plans?”

“Yeah, I was going to take Derek with me, so we can get a feel for this Academy/City we are living in.”

“Well, it seems like we have our own task we want to do, so I’ll see you guys later.” Sarah said before melting into the shadows

“Man, that looks so cool!” Derek said “I want to do that!”

“That’s why it’s called practice magic” Jason said as he took a right turn “Are you coming or not?”

“Yeah, but I hope I learn that move!” Derek said as he trailed along

“Just leave us out here alone?” Katlin said as she saw the apartment in her sights “Nevermind, so what do want to eat Angel?”
