stamps

A Poem by sette

Eire is for Ireland

Italia is for Italy

Scotia is for Scotland

Amerika for United States

Hongkong where Queen Elizabeth II

Is at the forefront,

China with Mao Tse Tung on the center,

Russia with St. Petersburg as the background.

How I love looking at the stamps all over again,

Wishing that I have the resources to travel and

See the wonders of the world.

I am curious about the culture,

The rich history,

The people

And the sights,

I am a philatelist

At heart,

Collecting stamps

Is more than a hobby,

It opens doors

For my imagination

To be real one day.

My mom's most fave hobby was collecting stamps...maybe still is....her hobby....but hardly I'll find stamps to give her!!
Worry not....maybe you'll have your desired flights to these desired countries...Who's seen better tomorrow...I'd like to see the best...

Wc☺.....!!
This is such a unique and delightful poem sette. Wonderful presentation in the picture of the stamps and how you name the countries they are from. Very interesting to know that you collect them. Your words convey the fascination you find in them- “It opens doors for my imagination to be real one day.” Thank you for sharing this facet of yourself and I hope you can go to all the countries of your dreams someday.

I still have the stamps I collected in a battered album from when I was nine years old. I too, fascinated at a young age about people from different parts of the world and their culture. Every Saturday with my pocket money I would buy an assorted pack of stamps, hoping that there would be many new ones in there and not just swaps. Thank you for that lovely memory sette.

yes but still a passion for me until now stella
Stamp collecting teaches many things, including history and geography.
Two disciplines which, today, are largely overlooked--especially by the young.
Excellent poem, S!

thanks jimmy for the appreciation
My aunt and uncle were philatelists. They had albums of stamps from all over the world. It was their passion. It does open a pathway to the cultures and people of other countries. Your love of philately is powerful in this poem. I hope you are able to visit some of the places you talk about one day. Lydi**
