Whatever It Takes

Whatever It Takes

A Poem by A.Lee

I don’t want to see you cry, my dear

I want those tears to fade

I’m going to help your head stay high

Through good, through bad, through worse

You’ve been my rock, the love of my life

You've sustained me through thick and thin

Now I want to hold your hand in mine

So now I can bring you in

Because it hurts to see you downhearted

And I don’t know what to do

Sometimes I can make you smile

But sometimes its hard for me too

I try to remove your burdensome load

Make it light as I possibly can

Take steps to make your pathway clear

So you can get to the end

I’ll take my stand in front of you

A chess pawn before her king

No one touches a hair on your head

Without first going through me

I’ll be a burro for your burden

A filter for your pain

I’ll find the ways to make you smile

To make you happy again

I don’t want to see you hurt, my dear

I want the hurt to fade

I’m going to help your head stay high

No matter what it takes

This is really good.. Life always gets worse before it ever gets better.
Dont let anything put your head down
take whatever comes your way and make the best out of it.

There's a lot of love in your words and the reader can tell you love this person a whole lot. When two people love they are always there for each other. Wonderful poem!

Cattie, you look so young in your picture...yet there is such depth in the words you write. I agree that this is not your best. This type of poetry rarely comes out in its best form on the first try. You are translating the language of your heart, and the complexity of its speech is beyond the ability of English to convey. We have to use analogies, imagery, and syntax in an attempt to help others know what's inside us. You use "pull through" in the second and third stanzas. I would look at changing one of them. Maybe "sometimes it's hard for me too."

I only say it's not your best because I've read your other pieces, and know what a talented writer you are. The feeling, however, is definitely coming through. This is a very special piece of work because it is honest and flows from someone stuggling to love another person. That being the case, if you left it exactly as it is, I think any reviewer would agree...it will bring a tear to the eye of anyone who reads it. Great job.

This is heartbreaking and wonderful at the same time. It's heartbreaking because it feels like you love to one-way... would he or she stand in front of you? Are they as protective as you? I truly hope so because through your writing it is obvious you deserve it. Again, stunning write!
