Not the same

Not the same

A Poem by Caroline B A Maguire
"

For my mum..an absolute lady!

"
My mum is not the same now.
She still knows my name
And remembers her own
But she gets so confused
About the time
And where she is
She wants to go home

And I cry inside
Where none can see
She was my best friend
She never let me down
I failed her I feel
It had gotten too hard
To keep her at home
You see
Though we tried
But it nearly broke me again

She seems happy though
And they look after her well
But it's not the same
She's not the same
But she is still here
Smiling through it all
I take that from her I think
A lovely inheritance

I hope she never knows any more pain
She has had more than her share
I pray she keeps on smiling
Until God takes her home
I'm grateful
She is still here
She is just not the same now
But she is still my mum
My beautiful mum.

This write touches me in many ways because it hit the very core of those we love dear, we wonder how our memories together forever can be forgotten in a single moment as we watch. Its hard to comprehend only endure with a the love we have left. Thank you for sharing

I have memory loss from the Army giving me 11 anthrax shots. It is scary. This is why I read non-stop. Keep my mind working.

when you say mum it sounds funny to me. i am a america boy we say mom. I know enough that when a mommy first time holds her baby she falls in love with her baby. years go by with many many troubles. it is not our fault that the machine of time rolls on crunching many people under it. sweet day to you. jeff

You could have written this about my mum who is in exactly the same situation as yours. It is heart breaking, I know. All I hope is that my mum is free from pain, both physical and mental and she doesn’t feel it or understand her own decline. Heart wrenching write for sure.
