A Question of Progress or Maybe Not?

A Question of Progress or Maybe Not?

A Poem by Chris Shaw

Once upon a window seen
where drapes drawn back in softened sheen,
like tresses of a young girl's hair,
to play the early morning breeze.

And sparkling glass, those clear bright eyes
would view a garden and the sky,
in satisfaction that this sight,
delightful be it day or night.

Fair stood this cottage near a wood,
for many years and if it could,
it would without a doubt have stayed
if chance had let it have its say.

But time you thief, brings forth your change,
not always for the best, it's strange
to see destructive forces where
I'd walk and breathe in country air.

Great memories of fields and pastures new. Now turned into housing estates. Sad thou. The modern new house. Is like a little dolls house. So quickly put together. And people placed in them. And the problems so many new house owners get in this country. Is sad. For what bricks and mortar and some windows. And the fields and trees and grass lesson as they expand and grow.

Thank you Dee. Sadly a sign of the times, but at least we have our memories.

It's very sad to think that our grandchildren take concrete jungles as the norm, many of them have to go to animal, farms to actually see sheep and cows... to hear a chicken cluck and find out where the eggs they eat come from; and the aroma of the countryside after rain.. the sounds , the bleats of new born lambs.

They will never realize what they have missed which is sadder still :(

I couldn't identify more. Where I used to see trees and hear birds sing, It's all been replaced by a brick wall and lots of noise.
