Through the Skylight

Through the Skylight

A Poem by Chris Shaw

I have loved the stars with fondness,
with passion and delight,
so when I lie here sleepless
I am thankful for their light,
that spangles in the Heavens
and has done all my life.

To those eyes that wink in darkness,
that enter in my room,
that chase away the demons,
the worries and the gloom,
I am thankful for your company
and the shadows you consume.

Through the skylight you are welcome,
at any time of year.
No need to seek an invite
as I'm grateful you appear
and the value that I place on you
is priceless, that is clear.

dearest Chris... Stars are wishes waiting to be granted...
shining in the Heavens where loved ones dream.
And when they fall... we recall the Splendor of it all.
Perfect lullaby when Angels sing and bluebells ring in
melodies of the rising Sun. tenderly, Pat

What a calming, lovely poem, Chris. I think I just let out a deep sigh upon reading. I hadn't realized I was tense until the relaxation of your image made it apparent.

I used to have two skylights in a little apartment my husband and I built out in the middle of a field on a few acres. There was nothing there to interfere with the view, and I remember now how much I liked to sit in the dark on winter nights and gaze at the clear sky and its abundance of stars.

This poem is a beautiful love letter to the stars. I really enjoyed reading.

Letting the light in is crucial to being a well rounded human... and I mean ALL the light, especially the not so apparently bright or even dark light.

To keep our lives balanced we need as much light as we do darkness. Thank you David.

A lyrical, twinkling beauty of a poem Chris. So very true, stars “chase away the demons” that haunt us all. Maybe there are some few that don’t need or appreciate starlight, but do not count me among them. I wish I could word and construct pristine and perfectly radiant verses as you so skillfully do my friend. You never fail to inspire me. When you look up through your skylight at night my friend, know that we are looking at the same stars...

magically beautiful! I really loved this ode to the stars and couldn't agree more. The tribute was very well laid out and the rhyme flowed so nicely.

That must be wonderful. Clear night's, no pollution, zillions of stars :)
Stars, the shimmering Stars indeed are a healing potion in all ways. Your words decipher the tune as a soothing voice clip in m y ears. They may be numberless in score, the values they carry for mankind on all planets are plenty as well... Wish for such starry nights to carry a ray of hope for each and everyone just like the morn sun rays... Nice read.

Chris - what a beautiful poem. I too love the scene painted by the stars, no matter what time of year. I have often strolled the beach, in my youth, and sat on the cool sand at night just to drink in the wonder of the stars in the dark night sky undimmed by city lights. Thank you so much for this very pleasant reminder of times past.

Take care - Dave

Your poetry often draws the reader to the beauty of nature, the simple joys of life and God’s many blessings on earth. The skylight could be Nature’s remedy for insomnia and to surrender to it shining comfort, is such a joy. Happy New Year, dear Chris! 💕💐

:)) very welcome and warmly received on a very cold day here.
You just transported me back to lidhood, wher mini me's bed was directly under the skylight and story time was replaced with ten minutes of trying to figure out whether I should sleep with the pillow at the top or bottom of my bed for the best view of the twinklies :)
Im sure I had adhd as a kid...okay, maybe a little now too, but I am getting better, not all the labels in my cupboard face outward :)

Your poem expresses similar thoughts to what I was thinking this morning, awakening before dawn, with the crescent moon in the sky. I love the company of the heavenly bodies when insomnia strikes! I love the way you speak of these heavenly bodies as your friends. Great rhyme & rhythm! Hope your 2019 is a steady upward path for you! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
