Endymion (Bluebell)

Endymion (Bluebell)

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

A very old poem, posted for Stella

"
Of all the flowers growing wild,
steadfast and constant year on year,
come take a walk in bluebell wood
in May as faithful blooms appear.

On shaded woodland floor they pose,
their bells lift up their heads on cue
as if to hail the spring once more,
a carpet breaks of boldest blue.

A sweetness tarries in the air,
resplendent sight for weary eyes,
don't pluck them cosy from their beds,
once picked each stem soon wilts and dies.

Endymion, so loved by Keats,
adored, admired it's said that he
chose his romantic hero's name
from visions of a bluebell sea.

I need a walk in a field of flowers. Coming week, some warm day in Michigan. Some flowers are already sneaking-up from the soil. I love the days of Spring. Spring, a Poet's muse. Thank you dear Chris for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Really fortunate to have several quite lovely blubell woods on the doorstep. Coton Manor, Badby woods, two quite well known ones.

When my sister and I were very young children, nan would take us on a walk through Everdon Stubbs which was absolutely gorgeous in bluebell season. Your beautifully composed poem has brought back some fond memories.

Beccy.
