The Book of Us

The Book of Us

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(one from the archives)

"
That book of us, is slim it's true,
its hardback cover turquoise blue,
its title bold, its letters gold
and there upon a page inside
in print that's smudged by tears which fell,
the only words I wish to say
and why with pain I walked away.
"I loved you well but I could tell
that butterfly inside of you
had squandered us, had wandered on
with ease it seems and little fuss.
My dear you were the death of us."

Gosh my dear! how with your masterful pen You brought unrequited love alive again. there is love, but there is not equal love, no equal give and take... how much courage it takes one to be firmed and decide to walk away, not only for oneself but also to the other part, to leave them so they can learn and grow. I find real wisdom here dear Chris.

And there am I re.arranging my journal! How fine your writing always is, Chris, you have that skill of writing all you want to say without a tome of words; you pick language with amazing ability. What you say, whatever your thinking, touches salient thoughts and emotions. Grand poetry.

Memories are so difficult. If only the bad ones were so easy to forget. Only time will hopefully bring the healing we seek. Only time will make it possible to remember only the
happiness that has passed and be all that we cherish.

I have to say that I love the mechanics of the poem a little bit more than the content. It's no easy feat to fit a ton of emotion amongst the meter and rhyme scheme. The effort should be celebrated. I must have read it over ten times to get it all. Great work on your part.

Yer it does suck, letting go is painful.
'with ease, and little fuss', aye, it does seem that way.. and yet still, we keep revisiting those old memories.
Nicely worded, Christine.
