My large childhood family, traditional & buttoned-up, used to call me "free spirit" becuz I didn't go in for their conventional ways. I was transported by your words to that mindset of being utterly free from fretting over whatever others might expect. It's only gotten more pronounced over the years for me! Thanks for painting it with all the intensity of how it feels to live this way (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I have at many times been perceived as a free spirit myself, and I realize upon reading this how little I have experienced the "other side" of my own such wandering. Now I am left in a reflective pondering. Thank you for an eye-opening gift of a poem. I appreciate that free spirits are described here in such a beautiful way, seemingly with little resentment despite acknowledging the reality of the broken hearts along the way.

I agree dear Chris. I knew a few free spirits in my life. Can befriend, but they love the free road and wall-less life. A wonderful poem shared and thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

When they gotta fly, they gottafly and no amount of trill will keep them planted to the ground.
Sometimes it even leaves us with wonder, that grows into seeing what all the fuss is about and heading up and onward in the opposite direction. And once we get used to not looking down and somersaulting tum, the exhileration kicks in and we are converted, only landing to feed and laugh at all those tall, featherless creatures who trudge along the ground like gravity defeated them.
Just be careful Chris. Look where you're going and dont smile down too smugly at all the walkers. My face has never been the same since it met that steeple while speeding 😀

Let the free spirits go? No, I say go with them! follow the dreams and add to them. It is not easy living with a free spirit, but it is always an adventure. "the realms of a never ending sky at night where they
wander at their own cosmic pace in their own time and in the vastness of their own space" Beautifully written, Chris! Lydi**

Thank you Lydi** for your lovely response. Pleased you enjoyed this poem.
Freedom to fly is why they wing their way back...
with a little sack of treasures... a pebble from the sea...
a cracked blue shell that fell when a Nightingale sang;
a falling Star that was wished upon.. all these gifts waiting for you.
truly, Pat

Well, I just knew you knew what I was talking about. "Fall in love with one of these it's you who will sink to your knees" sums it up perfectly. Lovely poem, Chris and I'm glad I could be of inspiration.
