Room With A View

Room With A View

A Poem by Chris Shaw

sunrise stretches a broad canvas
visible through pristine plate glass
doors that slide open on to a top
floor balcony

slate grey brooding sky mountains
form continents with islands
blending with smooth set apricot
splashes

to form perfect cloud harbours
without a single sail boat in sight
of early morning stillness in half
baked autumn light

a flash of thickened mango crush
adds a tincture of deeper hue
in a sky absent of an ounce of
ocean blue

a hint of gun metal shows two
dolphins taking a leap in imaginary
waters, leaping for joy like children
with a favourite toy

while reality puts seagulls in flight
centre stage in my living art,
entering this frame and departing
in fleeting moments

I consider myself extremly blessed that I can see these views from each of my windows. but I couldn't write about them so well. I find this a very moving and musical piece.
PS I realise that this is not Scotland you describe. And I love your descriptions of colour.

This poem revved up my imagination! Those clouds in the sky are in constant motion. Forming castles, mountains and harbors and even dragons. How awesome the sunrise sky appears from your words, with its gun metal and mango crush hues! The picture is complete with those sea gulls flying right across it!

Night night puddy Kat. Sweet dreams of catching nasty rats and giving them a good seeing too :))
Skyscrapers offer beautiful, panoramic views of the sky and it was one such amazing sunrise that you captured through your poetic lens here, Ms. Chris. The sky is teeming with unusual hues and shapes and not the expected blues one would expect and I find that fascinating. Have you ever noticed that the sky seems very similar at sunrise and sunset? Sunsets are my time on my balcony with a nice drink. Love it!

Descriptive and absolutely gorgeous! The way you describe the stillness of the morning and the gray mountains... it’s my kind of poem and I adore this one. Another poem that shows your endless stream of talent and hard work.

Indeed more delightful, descriptive verse that sets the scene so well and allows the reader to share your view of this autumnal picture Chris.
