Arrows With Near Misses

Arrows With Near Misses

A Poem by Chris Shaw

what time remembers most
is how the mercury in the wall
thermometer boiled as he breezed in

how the pupils in her eyes dilated
uncontrollably as she melted into
his when he glanced her way

such a give away don't you think
apart from that tell tale pink flush
that slowly crept neck upwards

and while she sizzled inside
fantasising on how they might be
in an intimate cosy setting

vetting his every move, touching
his lips with imaginary finger tips
pausing on blissful lingering kisses

talk about wide open opportunities
reminding her on past ponderings and
arrows with cupid's narrow misses

Hi Chris, sometimes those near misses are something that was meant to be. It always amazes me how the heart does act in these situations. Been there, have the T-shirt. Sometimes we can't just follow those arrows, for whatever reason. Still, these moments do stay in our memory. Maybe the heart knows when things should not be. Chris, you have such poetic grace with words. Have a wonderful Thursday. Hugs always....Mike.

Near miss or far miss, the missed arrows are ones to be thankful for! And dodging an especially sharp one is a coveted art.. haha :') Nice write, Ms. Anne. Best wishes.

This is a beautiful poem, and I love the way you give titles to your poems. They're always as beautiful as the text.

So, so hot! The love that we wished to have happened. How you reflect on every aspect of what it would have been like. Christine, I like this very much, a side of you I don't belive I've seen before.

Those narrow misses can keep us pondering and questioning the what if’s. There is a longing and a feeling of being out of sync because of the love that was narrowly missed.

Floating on a wisp of a dream
oh those near misses, and yet...a moment here...
just a smile, a grin, a glance...something to press between our pages like fossilized flower.

Hello, Christine! :)
I think this is my favorite of your poems so far; the sizzling theme, the phrasing and descriptiveness of her feelings all came together and hit me in the face; maybe a bit like she felt when beauty walked in. This brought to mind some of my crushes. Haha
Thanks for sharing.
