High School

High School

A Poem by CRZ

It's where at first you are excited yet nervous
It's a feeling you can't fight but still try to.
Is where you find your purpose
either think you're the best
or worthless.

Meet new people , from all around your area
meet the teachers, workers & neighborhood
The thought of finals or drugs being introduced
you don't know which one is scarier

You start to make alllll the friends in the world
even get a special someone along the way

Either avoid alcohol or still stuck on that tanqueray

Puberty starts to kick in
in full gear.
You learn that is not all about seeing ahead of you
but also your rear.

Either you take your life into steer or live life like
its terminal is near

You either get the motivation to persevere
or indulge in addictions
those leave souls quite severe.

The person you was 3 years ago prior
seems to change its tone as a choir
would do when its solo is front stage and
its main singer has to go higher.

You either take control of your actions now,
be your own boss
or find it later , literally lost

It is hard for youths to resist the wrongs of society. The have an internal and an external struggle in dealing with situations that affects their behaviour, They think they are alone and no one cares. So they are fighting in a raging war.But if they pull together and form an army for justice and peace they will meet the soldiers who are waging war for their freedom..Thank you for this piece..It is very enlightening. And heartrending. The character is carrying a heavy burden.. and needs help..This also exposes the cry of the youth.

Whoa, this takes me back. I can't believe what I thought was important back then!! Almost seems silly to me now...oh, but what I wouldn't give to be that young and silly again...

I believe this is what happens to most teens going to high school, sorrow and pity that though ahead we know what is there we still do it again, I feel if you don't alter tommorow and do as yesterday, you are not in the circle of humanity, you are either below or above.

"Either you take your life into steer or live life like /its terminal is near " I think you mean to make another line at "or live..."
"The person you was 3 years ago prior " Was should be were.
I think you did a great job talking about high school and the importance of it in life and how it's about more than just learning (because if it was no one would go ahaha) but about making friends and figuring out the world. Not just the world but finding you who you are so you can go on to live a happy life after high school. Great job :)

some powerful lessons in this write...and some not so fond memories. being one of the only two longhairs in high school, i have no desire to go back and do it again....ironically, Wayne (the other hippie) and i both got drafted....vietnam...Wayne did not come back....what i witnessed when i got home convinced me that i missed out on nothing , not being in the socially elite "circles"...most of them turned out to be losers anyway. well penned.....

I've never been to highschool cause obviously we have a different school system, nevertheless I could relate, I guess it's just the same all over the world.
I especially liked the last stanza.
Well written :)
