High School

High School

A Poem by CRZ

It's where at first you are excited yet nervous
It's a feeling you can't fight but still try to.
Is where you find your purpose
either think you're the best
or worthless.

Meet new people , from all around your area
meet the teachers, workers & neighborhood
The thought of finals or drugs being introduced
you don't know which one is scarier

You start to make alllll the friends in the world
even get a special someone along the way

Either avoid alcohol or still stuck on that tanqueray

Puberty starts to kick in
in full gear.
You learn that is not all about seeing ahead of you
but also your rear.

Either you take your life into steer or live life like
its terminal is near

You either get the motivation to persevere
or indulge in addictions
those leave souls quite severe.

The person you was 3 years ago prior
seems to change its tone as a choir
would do when its solo is front stage and
its main singer has to go higher.

You either take control of your actions now,
be your own boss
or find it later , literally lost

The odd error, but still great. Many a high schooler has went through this, as did I when I went. Shows a lot of truth into the poem. It's great

a couple comma errors and an un-needed period ...otherwise the words and lines are sound, very sound

would do when its solo is front stage and

its main singer has to go higher. ...i'd put the 'and' on the start of the 2nd line here ...just a suggestion

High school was better for me than middle school. The first day of middle school I cried because I was lost and I didn't know where to go and come to find out I was right at the place I was supposed to be. High school was good it had its ups and downs. Great poem thought it really captures the High school experience.

I loved high school. I firmly believe that has everything to do with happening to live in a really beautiful town with really cool administrators. When I started my freshmen year we were told that we only had rule to follow: Mutual Respect. Of course there are a lot of rules that fall under that, but it was a unique way of putting it that makes everybody feel better about there being rules... just thinking about what high school was to me by reading your poem...
This is a really cool take on it. High school is not so much about learning in the traditional sense, I don't remember covering a ton of new material in high school. But it is about growing the youth of a town, cordoning them off in one big building where they are safe and can learn from each other or bounce off of each other. It's a really important place as far as identity goes, though I found mine way before I got to high school and am still the same today, but maybe it is a place for the other people to start recognizing that everyone has an individual identity.

Nice work, interesting topic!

I remember. Going into high school for the first time is a scary thing, but soon it becomes the greatest, now you are the one you always envied, a High School Guy!

Nice job pointing out that while going through it High School is terror. Only in retrospect does it seem to have been a time of bliss.
Thanks for a quick trip back to the mid 70s.
