Eclipse Of Our Life

Eclipse Of Our Life

A Poem by Hebe
"

Human suffering - can we change things?

"

In a land that suffers from starvation

where white bones show laying in dry orange dust

vulnerable parched mouths, have scars of atrocities

where disease shrivels the carcass and ones radical opinions need no rendition

it only depicts grim and relentless human suffering

lets crush hope of all description!

We sit and watch in our vulgar prism

while in our garage we stuff our personal possessions

that are of no use to us anymore

seeped in our distorted forms of tradition

and inverted superficial western culture

our stellar image must portray propagandist materialistic wealth and happiness!

but reality depicts we are oceans away from any authenticity

just a slow strangulation in seaweed and plastic containers!

There is much wrong in this unequal world. Governments and big corporations must shoulder most of the blame, but we can all try to do our bit to help. Trouble is, there are so many greedy and uncaring people (and companies) on this planet of ours. Will there ever be real change? Looking at the famine and hardship in Africa alone, it is as if Band Aid (1984 music charity supergroup that raised millions of pounds/dollars) never even happened! Not just sad, but tragic!

such a complex world filled with such an array of people and situations ...i hear the anthems of reaching out to help one another and the false security of "goods" ... i am reminded of the Bible reading "The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me." Matthew 26:11
reading feels like i am being preached at rather than put in the experience ... more a rant if you will ... although that may be your intent and it is strong and clear ... perhaps using a person not your self to show us the skin of experiencing being poor or being rich and callous ... just a couple ideas that came to me while reading ... i like the free form a lot ... your poem has deep meaningful truths and lessons to take away with me this morning ... i honestly struggle with what and how much to give .. and to whom .. all the time .. for the masses in the middle class when money has to fix the car or our childrens health ..giving to others of necessity has to slip a bit .. so i feel guilty :{ ah well .. we do our best eh!? great read...obviously you really engaged me ;)

Suffering may be felt individually but its alleviation is social and requires not only social cooperation but social institutions that work together effectively. Thank you for sharing your own thoughts and feelings – the world has a long way to go to tackle this issue …. bless :-)

This was a very strong write, made even more powerful with the bold presentation... Dark against a backdrop of white... Kind of like my material happiness... Hah... Plastic containers, eh...? Amazingly penned, really...

It is a very moving write, Hebe. The ironies and contrasts in extreme are everywhere and we are lost in our display culture. Your write mirrored the fact so well. Thank you for sharing this write, Hebe..

You are welcome, Hebe.
Well after reading it, I must say that you are a brilliant writer. The way you molded the poem using the TEN words with meaning behind each lines, it seems really a perfect one.
