It Hurts Sometimes(But I'm Still Me)

It Hurts Sometimes(But I'm Still Me)

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)
"

I can't explain I just write...

"

Following a path

towards the misty mountain top

I came upon a rainbow

within arms reach.

The writing on the rock said

“Do Not Touch”.

I glanced around to find

no one to witness

to my rebel intention.

Before the tips of my fingers

could feel the colors of the world

a voice whispered

“If you don’t follow the sign

       it becomes a lie.”

To that I replied

“If I follow the words

       then I’d be a lie.”

My hand passed through,

the rainbow became rain

causing my footing to give way

sending me over the edge.

As I laid where I fell

I heard the voice again,

“As the rule has been broken

       now so are you.”

Through a snicker I retorted

“Yet I am still alive.”

Wink.

Boy I feel a very familiar vibe with what your wrote.
I always say:
"I'll never follow the yellow, brick road".
I always feel the bristles stand up a bit taller on my back when I hear the word 'rules'
My other saying is:
I rather live one life as a lion, than ten lives as sheep".

I love what you wrote here:

"If you don’t follow the sign
it becomes a lie.”
To that I replied
“If I follow the words
then I’d be a lie.”

Amen to that

Magnificent work, Dale! The ending added that humorous flare you relate so well.

A rule only exists if we accept and follow the rule....this poem shows one way to create change in our society since others may follow, the rule may go ignored in the future. Excellent poem!

This is excellent. Everything's surreal until you hit the ground and the whole episode is shattered when death and/or adversity is cheated!

lol - hahahaha - isn't it amazing how the rebellious streak in us gives and takes the best of us - we always need to question what the intention was for the sign to be there...did they want to control us? did they really want to warn us? i enjoyed this lovely insight

I like this one. It speaks so much about being human. This is one to ponder, because I need to see how it applies to me. Great write!

I like those paths where we don't support to wander. I did some free style rock climbing for 20 years. I went to many places I was told not to go. I met the Eagles and Hawks. They knew I was safe and left me alone. A man who follow a straight path may find nothing at the end. Better to challenge and taste the wild side and know you have lived a good life. Thank you for a outstanding poem. I told my kids. Travel, test life and have fun before you are forced to be old and tire.

I love this. Sometimes you just gotta break the rules and make your own. To me this is very inspiring! Great job!

Rebellion at its finest. I love the last line. Sometimes rules were made to be broken and bent. Not follow the main stream of what is right and wrong.
