Life Is In The Details

Life Is In The Details

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

As life begins to age before your eyes

Every second becomes a New York minute

And with every blink a dog year passes by.

Before you know it the giggle of the kids

Turns into sighs of growing pains

And you don’t even recognize

The laugh lines on their faces

Or what makes tears pour out.

Good friends and favorite music

Become a foreign subject

As you become engrossed

In adult responsibilities.

The spouse is just another face

You pass on the busy street

With a simple greeting

As your rushing to the grind.

Soon you can’t recall

The last time you just sat and talked

About the little things in life

And achieving hopes and dreams.

When did you last explored

Each other’s anatomy

While intimate breaths

Merged together getting lost in space.

Trying so hard to give the family

Everything their heart’s desire

When in the end love is biggest priority.

Remember the smell of a rose

Or the feel of the grass tickling your feet?

Mother nature at its finest.

Can you recall the words to your favorite song?

Shouting it at the top of your lungs

As your imagination sings backup.

Have you ever read an epitaph

That said, “I wish I could have worked more”?

Sometimes it’s easy to forget

Life is in the details

Death is in black and white.

How incredibly timely this is for me. I was out of town this weekend and found many tears flowing down my cheeks. I was at a wedding ... a wonderful wedding of two who have been together since they were each about 13. This was one of those weddings that one knows should take place. They are each about 25 today. Trouble is I really do not know what my tears were for. My dear sweet husband said with nothing but love: "You are sappy." I knew that the tears related to the present joy, the sadness of life gone, the goodness of life lived and the yearning for things not experienced. But mainly I knew that the tears flowed for those Lifetime Marker Events. I knew that I wished to write a poem but was quite lost as it is not my typical write. Your wonderful work has given me some direction. Thank you.

Supports the old adage of "the best things in life are free." We work so hard and strive to make the money to buy the things we want or want for our families. We give them everything but the precious moments that we can never go back to recapture. A wonderful thing to take a trip to the Grand Canyon, an even grander thing is to explore each other's heart and mind. We get in return what we give. Leave a child in lonliness a with expensive toys. They will then leave you in lonliness in an expensive nursing home. Give a child some imaginative play time with you and love them freely. They will see that you are in return loved and during that second childhood, they will hold your hand and lead you down the wonderful path of memories cherished. This is a beautiful writing taken from a very giving man's heart.

That has so many thoughts in it. It's a poem that really made me think, as I'm still a young adult, not yet out of my teens.
I know that the life of work is coming, but I really want to make sure that I don't forget about the things I enjoy. Life is not about work, life is about trying to enjoy yourself.. I think a lot of people forget that.
Anyway, it was well put together, and really worked well. Thanks for a great piece!

Holy crap Dale, this is simply a fantastic poem! I am so glad you shared this with me, because lately I feel like I'm going up way to fast, and hell I'm still somewhat of a kid myself. Time does pass very fast and before we know it children will be soon adults. I should enjoy my time being a kid right now and worry about it after, when the time is right.
I should honestly read this everyday of my life, lol!

Another great poem, here. You present quickly passing time wonderfully with your example of children turning into adults. I think this is one of the most striking transitions, and also one of the scariest. Great job with this!

Sometimes it's easy to forget

Life is in the details

Death is in black and white.

You touch on so many of life's details like the roses ,

imagination singing backup, barefoot in grass ..etc..

and it's all so true~ We tend to forget to slow down to

enjoy the details of life~ and Death grabs us all too soon

Surperb piece of writing Dale

Beautiful, lovely, and full of wisdom.
Thank you, thank you for writing this.
Nothing is more inspiring than "the details" of life.

are you spying on me again?!?! You are too good! Hubby and I were JUST talking along these very same lines... we ALMOST forgot to stop and smell the roses and things just slipped from our grasp: quality time, enjoying each other etc. We decided recently to "escape" and "find" each other again. Mind you, our "escape" was JUST to the driveway to the rv after kiddies were asleep, BUT we listened to music, shared thoughts and dreams and all the things that we love about each other came flooding back (which was MUCH needed). Your writing is so humanistic (meant as a compliment). This is a perfect reminder to not let LIVING get in the way of LIFE!!
