Life Is In The Details

Life Is In The Details

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

As life begins to age before your eyes

Every second becomes a New York minute

And with every blink a dog year passes by.

Before you know it the giggle of the kids

Turns into sighs of growing pains

And you don’t even recognize

The laugh lines on their faces

Or what makes tears pour out.

Good friends and favorite music

Become a foreign subject

As you become engrossed

In adult responsibilities.

The spouse is just another face

You pass on the busy street

With a simple greeting

As your rushing to the grind.

Soon you can’t recall

The last time you just sat and talked

About the little things in life

And achieving hopes and dreams.

When did you last explored

Each other’s anatomy

While intimate breaths

Merged together getting lost in space.

Trying so hard to give the family

Everything their heart’s desire

When in the end love is biggest priority.

Remember the smell of a rose

Or the feel of the grass tickling your feet?

Mother nature at its finest.

Can you recall the words to your favorite song?

Shouting it at the top of your lungs

As your imagination sings backup.

Have you ever read an epitaph

That said, “I wish I could have worked more”?

Sometimes it’s easy to forget

Life is in the details

Death is in black and white.

How incredibly timely this is for me. I was out of town this weekend and found many tears flowing down my cheeks. I was at a wedding ... a wonderful wedding of two who have been together since they were each about 13. This was one of those weddings that one knows should take place. They are each about 25 today. Trouble is I really do not know what my tears were for. My dear sweet husband said with nothing but love: "You are sappy." I knew that the tears related to the present joy, the sadness of life gone, the goodness of life lived and the yearning for things not experienced. But mainly I knew that the tears flowed for those Lifetime Marker Events. I knew that I wished to write a poem but was quite lost as it is not my typical write. Your wonderful work has given me some direction. Thank you.

Damn damn damn. I wrote you an awesome review and my damn computer went stupid on me. I will have to see if I can remember it all.

Oh I f****n love this piece as it feels so much like my own words being recited back to me. The conviction and passion in which you wrote this was so amazing. The thoughts and feel of this felt so personal to me as it seemed as if my own thoughts, dreams, and ideas where being taken from my head and placed on a page and put into motion. I am so glad and inspired that you wrote this piece.

Great Job!!!!!!!

I like the way you shown the fact that beauty lays in simple things, that satisfy our souls.
Time sometimes wipes out the good memories, that meant so much to us and made us happy.

The joy in life is indeed in the, ,,details,, , and you have shown that in the best way.

This is so true. I look at my kids, age 13 and 16 now, and wonder where all the time went. We have to constantly remind ourselves to be mindful and enjoy the moments as they come to us, not waiting to be done working, or done with this or that. There is always something to do. Even when we die, things will be left undone. Sometimes we need to set aside what needs to be done and just enjoy life.

This is a beautiful poem. Once again, every line was a delight and treasure, every stanza flawlessly written. Thanks for sharing!

Wow... this was really deep, definitely a new style you seem to be emerging with and I love it. So true that people rush through life only with memories of the past never making new ones in the present. The older we get the more we forget to enjoy the simple things and take a break every once in a while. There were a few typos but other than that this is by far one of my favorites by you so far. Keep on sending them to me!

As your rushing to the grind. ~ you're

I loved it. Too many times in our lives do we forget about what's truly important, and it sure isn't the 9-5 or the dishwasher or who did what to whom. Thank you for reawakening me to the beauty around me.
