SlaughterHouse Dreams

SlaughterHouse Dreams

A Poem by Baby Ricochet
"

It's a poem. With rhymes and s**t.

"

Got a job in a slaughterhouse
on top of grinding gears
Strapping pigs to electric chairs
for bovine profiteers

Wrap hooves with conductor wire
Then throw the killing switch
I work for piss and vinegar
Make profits for the rich

Exploit the lands of Africa
Cow them with the lash
Our founding fathers ambitions
A slave holder's panache

Running guns across the desert
Rape the land for spoils
Waging war for profit margins
The price of diamond oil

Exploiting fears of terrorism
So hate can germinate
Turn the land of milk and honey
Into a fascist state

Ride the backs of common people
Until we're broken down
Profiteers eat all our children
while we all slowly drowned

Working in this slaughterhouse
listening to the screams
Watching entrails on the walls
turn into payday dreams

Stick electrodes into piggy
one last screaming squeal
Hit the switch electric twitch
then hang it on the wheel

With this piece you have given me a reason to read the poetry on this site... Thank you! I'm glad to see that there are some writers putting forth real effort here. I say this because so many of the folks who do poetry strike me as they only do it so they can write without any thought as to rules or technique. This is a true breath of fresh air!

I want to first say that I like your use of rhyme, which you managed to do without sounding childish; in my experience, not many poets can do that.

As stated by another reviewer, there is rhythm in your stanzas; however, I don't feel it's maintained all throughout. I'm not sure if this was intentional, but you start out with 28 syllables per stanza (8,6,8,6), which then changes repeatedly throughout. Again, I'm not sure if this was your intention or not, but it gave the piece a very choppy feel to me. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this.

Thank you, again, for a great read! Be well.

thanks for stopping by
Wow, BR! That is some visceral verbiage. Perhaps like something that might be written in the sidebars of a storm troopers travel journal. Hmm, on second thought maybe it was. I think you've got the audience's attention. I think and cringe a bit anticipating the next entry. Mission accomplished.

Holy crab cakes, you're something else baby! Something incredible, that’s for sure. Reminds me of Bob Dylan's 'Masters of War'.
