If Only....

If Only....

A Poem by Diana Owen Busy with Life BBS!

If only I could be, your everything.

If only I could be, the one.

If only I could make you love me.

If only I could have seen,

What It was that I was doing to you.

If only that I knew,

that pushing you away,

would only break my heart,

If only I had said I love you,

before you walked away.

Then maybe,

I would have been your everything,

instead I am nothing,

and all I have is......

IF ONLY

Unfortunately, it's not fiction for me and the way you've captured every emotion that I feel so perfectly really makes me wonder. I almost cried reading this and I'm going to send it to the person whom I would've dedicated it to, had I written it.

You know I love to read your work. This is no exception. Actually, I would have to say that with all the practice, you're getting better! Keep up the good work, and I'll keep reading. :)

You shouldn't have to explain...there is nothing in your poem to suggest otherwise...?! It stands on its own as a very probing light into the what ifs of a lonely life. This to me is the best submission of yours that I have reviewed; it is a good play on choices, never truly backing down from those made but living in a continual state of second-guessing. While not everyone relates to it personally it holds an appeal on another level; that of seeing into the mind of uncertainty and missed opportunities.

The ending, by the way, is picture perfect.

Thanks for the submission.

I agree with Chris. Unfortunately this isn't fiction for me and you do capture the emotions quite well. The person that I feel this way for doesn't know how I feel as we just reconnected after years apart and even then he doesn't know, I don't think. Great job, Diana.

Good on the writers notes. whew.
I like the way this goes. Youcould have drawn this out and added more to this at the end. Just to tell a story. Nice work you.

Yes, life's regrets... I know that I have some and sometimes wonder "if only" and "what if." Luckily we can learn from our mistakes and hopefully not make them again. Lingering about them too long leads to a depression that is hard to get out of.

This was an emotional write that was easy to read, it flowed very well.

Cheers,
Stacy

I know this feeling all too well. Like you want to be someones everything and they won't let you in. Thank you for sharing. You did a wonderful job of expressing it- I really like it. Good job

i think its always a bad idea to repeat the same line so much in a poem. it become to repetitive and predictable. also i think your execution was a little weak.
