Have I Gone Blind

Have I Gone Blind

A Poem by emipoemi

Have I gone blind? Can I not see?

I look around with care,

And see a blur in front of me-

Is really nothing there?

I take a step, and, look, I walk,

But still ’tis all unclear.

I part my lips, and, there, I talk,

But no one seems to hear.

Then am I dead beneath a stone,

And left to rest in peace?

Is this my soul, then, all alone

And vowing not to cease

The quest to find the gates of gold

That ease life’s great ordeals?

No. Neither am I sick or old,

And still my body feels.

Then am I dreaming? Am I deep

Within my mind’s thick mists?

Adrift about the depths of sleep

With all its charms and twists?

Is it these mists which cloud my eyes,

Or am I truly blind?

Can anyone discern my cries,

Or am I in my mind?

If ’tis a dream, awake! Awake

And see the morning light!

I boldly must attempt to break

The bonds which hold me tight.

Yet I see not my thrusts nor flails,

I stumble with each stride.

Not one can hear my screeching wails

That echo far and wide.

Then, taking one more step, I fall

For what seems endlessly.

Cry one last time, and give your all!

Awake! Awake! I see!

The morning through my window shed

Its light and broke my bind.

I thus was neither lost nor dead,

Nor for that matter blind.

'Have I Gone Blind'
emipoemi,
A world within, we each go through many seasons-many states of being.
It takes focus in dealing with these seasons and then a period of clarity.
As in your ending
'The morning through my window shed'it light and broke m bind.
I thus was neither lost nor dead,
Nor for that matter blind.'
Lovely words,
Kathy

So glad you did. Thanks for reading.
What an eloquent expression of the question "Am I dreaming?"! In all of your writing that I've read you have airtight rhymes and follow the meter almost perfectly. The use of old english really works for you too. Great work, keep on doing what you're doing. :)

I thoroughly enjoy this piece. The questioning whether of death, dream or sanity is written with vivid imagery, and reminds me of questions I've pondered myself as well. Nicely done. Thank you for sharing!
