the forever guest

the forever guest

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the forever guest

spill the incentives

the shaky glass of confidence

my drink of assertive liqueur

is watered down

i want to coast on the coaster

no refills, my placid place setting

needs a sharper knife

to slice away my ineptitude with love

maybe i could be excused from the table?

or just slide under it

and wait for the gathering to leave

since they still have hearts

a place to call home.

Is teaching a place that is "under the table"? It takes a lot of heart to speak of these things. You touch a lot of people with your "shaky glass of confidence", Jacob

this one hits home Jacob... I have a table reserved at the restaurant at the end of the universe, you can always join me, drink some regret liqueur, we can swap ineptitude love stories... or hang under the table and watch everyone else...

Filled with regrets for past failures, and apart from friends with their ever afters is an awkward place. It leaves a vague sense of inadequacy..Odds man out in a secret others seem to instinctively know. Coasting has more to recommend it than heart break, though. Another thought provoking write.

Feels like a forever guest in one's own skin, seems as though everyone else take root, and then there are those that sojourn endlessly, never finding their own safe haven.

thank you for your insightful reply, Paloma...

Still thinking about this one. The fact that we can't always cut it as a human being can often cause a rift between what we are and what we want to be. There's a sadness that lurks in this from above or below the table.
