Interesting metaphor! Sounds to me like a woman who has outgrown the days when she was beautiful and the center of attention. Too bad she can't enjoy the glass slippers that can fit her now! I really like the title as well, it ties in with the theme! Thanks for the intricate poem :)

thank you for the kind words, Ally....happy christmas and nice to see you again...
Thankfully, this piece has nothing to do with me.
I never stare at my soup spoon, growl or attempt to wear a single glass slipper.
Do, occasionally, pump-kin, not incestuously but interrogatively.
Very much enjoyed the read, Jacob.

thank you for your words, jimmy....they brought a smile.
But it doesn't fit and old age has crept in. I can be guilty of pining for the old days. Man, bitterness just wants to sneak on in. Seems your firing on all cylinders lately. Thoughtful work. CD
Oh man....this sums up how I feel about the holiday season. Some pumpkins are never going to turn into coaches and the glass slipper ain't gonna fit these old feet ever again. Regret, reflection, melancholy....wonderful. Lydi**
I got caught in the last line Jacob, for the silliest of reasons. Seems quite prophetic seeing as how I was clipping my toenails last night and thought to myself "whose feet are these"?
I noticed how my feet were wider, uglier and I seem to possess toenails made from similar material to battleships. The fairest of them all they are not. And the days of going to a ball are sadly over for me.
I will just have to make do with glaring into my soup.

Ah, yes Jacob. After all, a fairytale is only enticing because it is a fantasy. It represents, but will never replace. Sooner or later you gotta eat your beans and rice or starve dreaming for cake.
