to the core of what eats us

to the core of what eats us

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

to the core of what eats us

blue birds, blue jays and blue bloods

Baltimore Bullets

red stained streets

red stained hearts

crimson tears bleed for families

the protectors need protecting

a spray of delusion

armed enforcer of retribution

looking through the site of a gun

eliminates lives for revenge or fun

but the fingers on the trigger shake with certainty

bombs bursting within the air of sanity

we are all cracked,

fallen from the nests

without learning to fly above the hated worm

food for anger

crawls into our souls

and destroys the apple from within.

The deadly shootings and terrorists actions are becoming too routine. The USA has basically grown with violence. What cowboy show/movie has not had a fist fight or shooting and people dying? What detective or police show has not had the same?

In the 40's and 50's there were action serials (shows with chapters). So many had deaths and violence. Action movies, cowboys and indians, gangster movies and so on. Violence has been with us for many years.

The difference is they were make believe. Today the violence is all too real and spreading. There are sick people out there that want to find a reason to kill others. I can only hope you don't have a reason to write anymore poems regarding this subject and where we seem to be going.

Unfortunately I'm not holding my breath.

yes, they were make believe, and now they are based too much on reality, or vice-versa...

There is so much going on...even in this hour police are being killed in Baton Rouge, LA. It's unnecessary bs. We all feel helpless and to blame....great poem. Sad tears....

I believe ""The fingers on the trigger" begins with a keyboard. A head line news. Yellow Journalism: Spreading a "spray of delusion" into hearts of the "Especially Ignorant". Stirring up anger, hatred, intolerance which breeds chaos, violence, and bloodshed. We have to remind ourselves and our young, there is more light than darkness in this world. It begins with them, it begins with each of us. Spread Love. Restore our own faith in humanity. Another Thought-Provoking write.

thank you for your insightful words, Roma

It's hard to say something meaningful or pertinent about the way the world is going lately, but you've managed to appeal to something inside me with your message here. Altho your meaning is a bit elusive for my simple reading ability, I think I agree with most of your views.

thank you for your words, barleygirl...

it's just madness.

j,
Incidences of blood and violence that may lead to a very bad electoral choice on the part of the American public, looking for simple solution for that which has no simple solution. Thank you for this very poignant and timely poem.

yes, i agree totally with what you said...the same thing scares me.

One great man of my country once proclaimed, "The youth is the hope of our motherland." At present, however, the younger generation across the world are becoming more and more involved in hideous activities. Somehow, i believe that we all contributed to the degradation of their values.

thank you, gabrielle...

a comment on your poem could be book long Jacob... no I won't write it... I do have a question though and no one seems to have raised it: how do beautiful children go from this to irredeamable monsters in just a few short years??? is this really our nature to be this way??? are we as human beings just rotten to the core??? or do we become this way as a result of interacting within the rules of a system that exists and we are born into it??? and if we really, honestly want a different society and world don't we have to answer these questions, get to their roots???

People here in this country have to fully confront the actual history of this country and its role in the world up to today, and the terrible consequences of this... as one step in actually making the needed changes...

Jacob, your poem points us in a good direction as it encourages thinking and looking at things deeply..
