books of poetry in a box in the attic of my mind

books of poetry in a box in the attic of my mind

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

books of poetry in a box in the attic of my mind

wanted to be a philanthropist poet

but couldn't afford to give away the words

even though on the sly

my heart let them go for free

Sometimes we let a kind word slip even when it's undeserved. I think that's a good deed indeed.
It can demonstrate patience, forgiveness and even love. Very nice compact poem.

First of all, I had to click on this overly long title becuz it seems to be the exact way I picture your cluttered mind must be . . . from the plethora of poems that spills out of it daily . . . and also from the way your poems often address writing, or words, or plays on words, etc. as if your mind is a collection of books on poetry. Secondly, I must comment on the way my writing was only so-so back when I was trying to make money at it, but once I stopped caring & started freely sharing just for the fun of it, that's when my writing changed dramatically. So I encourage everyone to let it go for free *smile* As they say, do what you love & the money will follow (altho this hasn't happened to me yet!)

We live in a world where success is seen through the lens of financial gain. Poetry is one world where that doesn't fit.

again, true...it doesn't fit.

All of us at Writers Cafe are, in a sense, philanthropist poets - giving our poetry away for free, to anyone who will read it. Nicely expressed!

Jacob, I like these simple words. the first line brought to mind 'like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel' but then, I'm just an old hippie. A lovely bit from a philanthropist poet. It sounds better than 'warrior poet'. A good write.

while I am sure there are some poets who only write to earn fame and fortune, most of us are poets of the heart and share willingly no matter what... just like in society, there are those who give in order to gain personally (fame and tax breaks) and then there are those who give because of a great need....
