as the hungry birds walk below

as the hungry birds walk below

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

as the hungry birds walk below

high rise lovers

palms refusing to encircle another's

as they try to hold hands with God

security, an apartment jettisoned into a sky

filled with green,

a lonely existence of counterfeit bills

to pay for the solemn oath

the marriage words

said to a fat wallet

with that "kiss the bride" formality

when others are starving in the streets

for love

for a few comforting words

&

a bit of rice thrown

into winsome wind.

A sad life for those who live it that way. I love your poetry, it is so insightful. It seems false security is what that apartment brings, I guess depending on how you define security. Very thought provoking.

Thanks! I enjoyed the progression from god to security and from money to marriage. Where is the love?

Love this. I was joyfully challenged right away to seek the image of a bird that was hungry and not in flight but walking in flesh not with wings of grace. i took this in a spiritual sense as a Soul an angelic being with wings , Living as though they were risen to the heavenly realms with enlightened souls and thinking they are Godly. Yet not embracing the works of God. Instead they hold back their wallets not sharing the abundance with others . I see them with fake wings while their feathered friends are scratching the gravel for bits of seed. They have not a marriage (oneness) with God But of vanity and so was the rice at the wedding thrown in vanity.

The haves and the have not some are really poor, others I have met have money for 2 packs of cigarettes a day, money for casinos but go to the food bank crying poor to feed their children. Place needs before greeds is what more need to learn. Also if you are able to work...work. There is no shame in working and paying your own way. Valentine

You are welcome. Kathie
That wind should always be so winsome...from stem to stern, the thematic string here never goes a-cropper. Hell of a piece.
