Ah you most be thinking about Lot's wife here. She looked back when she was warned not to and according to the bible was turned into a pillar of salt. Maybe this is saying, move forward, life is too short to look backwards.

I still think I'm middle-aged...but then I'd have to live to 140ish.

Looking back saddens me...the choices made...not always good...much better to look forward than turn to a pillar of salt.

Part of the lingering impact of this piece comes from its brevity. It feels as though true experience resides behind each and every word.

It now strikes me as a zen commentary. Something about living in the now rather than the past, or perhaps the future that is not yet decided (except for the death thingy - but we won't go there.) So, better and done.
