the Creature

the Creature

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the Creature

let's converse on love

for a change

some diversity of heart

of art

that has been stifled by madness

writing into a frenzy of incited thoughts

imagination

out of control

murdering smiles

for miles of malicious wandering

let's converse on love

or did we forget that sweet little noun

with the proper meaning

even in its lower case

I love you in another time

the one before this

when it stood still

and you stood still

and I kissed you into midnight madness

the good kind

let's converse on love

what do you say?

again you leave me bleeding

scars in a hope chest

my art sealed in my brain

I can no longer let it loose

the torches are coming for me

the skin of my muse

seared

into arears

I've gotten carried away again

I am sorry I have

inserted an amoral intellect

into my creation.

a complicated subject. you seem to be writing a lot lately about love gone bad and the tearing fabric of it. the narrator is very aware and open regarding it but cannot seem to come to terms with it or get a firm grip on it. you've captured the see-sawing nature of it. it can be a monster once the door is opened and it is unleashed. not an easy thing but anything worthwhile never is. i like the question in the middle and being allowed inside his head whilst he has an honest debate. we must be careful not to judge by appearance and be willing to dig deeper to discover the truth about someone/something. we can sometimes all be frankensteins or mad doctors creating them ... :)

Love, it can take us to the giddy heights and it can bury us in hell. It all starts of with such good intentions and somehow the loving gets replaced by the negatives. Envy, greed, jealousy, drink, you name it. The we reverts to being I. When love is good it is very, very good, but when it is bad it is horrid. There is much emotion in these lines and it touched me to the core because I know what toxic love is and how it can drive you mad and how long deep scars take to heal. Great piece of writing Jacob.

I've noticed you write about a toxic kind of love often. Maybe you should just let her go........
This is still a really great write.

The heart and the intellect often merge into one being. It gets hard to differentiate. Art and madness both affect each other at different times. Ultimately, the conversation is just about love. The emotions burn raw here.

you raise such a good question, AJNJ...are we our art and madness or is our art and madness us.

Love, sending us into midnight madness. Madness, stifling creativity. Creativity, stifled further by the pain and disappointment of love; hope we carried in our hearts, hearts now empty. The muse is destroyed. All at the hands of the creator, whose now questioning the whole creative and destructive cycle. Sounds like free will gone wild. I feel this. I like this a lot.

Given the state of the world, (my postwoman even said "there is still love in the world" as she delivered my mail in the snow this morning.) This poem really hit to the heart of me. And for that I am supremly grateful Jacob.
