"but the pen is a scathing rapist"
wow, now that's an image that cuts
this is a really interesting take on the dynamics of writing
the stripping of soul
voluntarily or otherwise
poignant piece, nicely done!
Poets don't hide anything. We bare our souls and we do it in spite of those that would have us bear their discontent with us. Often wearing our hearts on our sleeves we tell of our sorrows, our woes, and joyously, on occasion, the sweeping feelings of unbridled love.
I like how you use bare and bear in this poem; I guess it's the poet's own fault if he has nothing to say; which may mean that he doesn't emote and that certainly makes it difficult. I really like the verse "straining to unclothe his heart".... that really speaks to the essence of the poem; "bare poems, the poet bears the weight" very clever Jacob; I like it very much; (and by the way sometimes my poems are bare, not bear!!!!
Yours truly, B
So many people are afraid to express themselves in fear of being rejected, ridaculed or judge harshly. We the poets are the heroes of the written word.

thank you for your kind words, Cowboy...yes, we have to be.
Jacob, you are on a roll my gifted poet friend.
Artists can’t help but to feel exposed; they pour their souls into the work.
The comfort comes from knowing that your work will at some point console those who have been broken by life.
I wish I could write a bare poem. I wish I could write as well as you. Excellent Jacob. Can't think why I am the first to comment. 'The pen is a scathing rapist'.... what a line
