A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

epitaph

for the poet,

are the words buried treasure

or

are we buried

and then our words treasured

i treasure the ability

to write

acclaim notwithstanding

line my coffin with old typewriters

i promise

i will use all of my fingers.

Being a poet isn't about the body that goes in the coffin. It's about the body of work left behind. Our oeuvre will speak as a cohesive body long after our physical bodies are dust and ash. We may fade to insignificance and be rediscovered like John Donne. "Death be not proud."

Perhaps and thank you
dear poet..🌷
Indeed, writing is its own reward. It makes me highly satisfied when I write something that seems good to me. Acclaim is something reserved for a relative few, posthumous acclaim for even fewer. Booth Tarkington won two Pulitzers in his lifetime, but few remember him now.

Thank you, Julie...very kind words,

As poets or poet-wanna-be's we're fortunate that we can express ourselves or create with words. Your words have always been treasured to me and I'm sure everyone else that reads you. Just make sure they put extra ribbons in the coffin with you. 😊

Thank you for your kind words, Relic,

Nah, we’re buried, and then the words are treasured; and that’s probably a good thing. There are already enough grifters about.

Interesting thoughts J. Maybe both. I am buried daily in my words, looking for something new to say. A compulsion with me. However maybe after we are gone our words will live on. I hope my words will be treasure for my kin. Your third stanza brought a smile to me.

Think it's unusual how some dont get recognized when others get that fast. But I think that's how it is and will be. I wish all the talents, ready to be recognized, be seen and accepted. But oh well, I just wish for some peace.
