for a poet friend of mine

for a poet friend of mine

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

for a poet friend of mine

I met your friend Elizabeth the other day,

she told me of the Runaway Slave at Pilgrim's Point

and those Nightingales' with Bianca placed among them

and she told me how many ways she loved "thee"

probably not "me"

and how many flowers her beloved

had brought her,

and how loyal a companion you had been

that her words formed a bond

with your creative intuition

that you have loved her words

for longer than you could

assimilate them

into theme

and the dream of conversing

you have been nursing

longer than any flower has bloomed

within a lifetime...

I met her, yes indeed

she spoke highly of you, yes indeed

she would like to meet you someday, yes indeed

and she said there is a place where all beautiful poets

find peace, find each other

sit in the parlor, drink tea

and do a dance of syllabic splendor

share a few rhymes

a few sublime

intellections

and listen to the Nightingales

sing

just outside the window

of where dreams meet.

Mrs. Browning had some wonderful verse. I have an old and tattered leather bound edition of her works. It's titled simply, Mrs. Browning. I've been looking for another of her books. I'm a thrift shop bibliophile and find many of my treasures at libraries and thrift stores. Libraries will sometimes sell off discontinued books. This is a lovely write, Jacob. I enjoyed.

This is so 💜 heart rendering poetic… like being on a Merry-go round with Poets that hear their Poems set to Music… and know they have passed on…. “Tomorrow we go to the Fair… we’ll ride Painted Horses with Wind in our hair… tomorrow.. we’ll go to the Fair.” Beautiful Poem, Jacob. Pat
