A Poem by Chris Shaw

pockets of baby blue peep through
billowing puff ball cloud

while slow moving river shows flotillas
of leaf-fall in serene flow

like boats afloat an armada of many
willow oak and beech leaves drift

golden in unhurried procession in
downstream direction to our capital

in silent solemnity in memory of
our late Queen peacefully lying in state

It is fascinating to see people's reactions to the passing of their queen. It just shows, among many other things, the power of symbols. The queen was a human being like anyone else, of course, but she was also the embodiment of a number of values, ideas, and virtues which made her a living symbol. It seems that people have an inherent need for such symbols - be that in real life, or in fiction.

These are such stunning visuals you have created here, dear Chris. Nature is indeed paying tributes to the beloved Queen in all its richness. I can picture that slowly moving golden procession of leaves and I say a silent prayer too. So beautifully penned!

The world lost a great lady. Always acted with class and a example of a leader. We need more like her. A wonderful poem for a new angel in heaven.

Yes, it seemed that the World slowed down during those days of Remembrance.
As a Canadian, she was my Queen too, and I recall fondly a day long ago when she returned my youthful wave from a street corner in New Westminster, British Columbia.

Hi Chris, it was so sudden !

The slow and solemn processions were an awesome tribute, and it was like we lost several days when time just stood still..
