the days of daze

the days of daze

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the days of daze

Judy crush

her desk

a note in class away from mine

her smile

a note in a song I imagined

her beauty

a memory

from a distance

a note in class away from mine

she almost knew I loved her.

This one reminded me of the gentle days in school when the boys and girls passed notes and hoped they didn't get caught. Why is J. Geils Band, Angel is a Centerfold now playing in my head? Those old school crushes were the best, feeling the anticipation of a smile or a glance. I enjoyed the read.

Your words, your poem, sails the winds of time, jacob. There is charm, delight, adoration between each meaning, each letter, each memory.

You are welcome Jacob.
This reminds me of me, standing outside a house for hours trying to figure out how to talk when crushes mother comes out and asks me if I want to see Moen; I panic, say no, and high tail it home. I was 10.
Brought me back, Jacob. Nicely written.

Did you finally talk to her when you were 11?

Nope. Never did.
Recollection lane. This is pure nostalgia. Early love in a class forever. Her beauty caught you. Nice work Jacob.

Has the sound of high school to it, and "a memory from a distance." She was the girl you longed for, but had no way of communicating it. Who knows what that note might have said? Who knows if she knew? Ah, the trials of adolescence!

makes me smile, Jacob. my first love was Rosemary Scott .. in 6th grade (i think) .. i wrote her a love letter in invisible ink i bought at Ed Guth's Toy and Hobby Shop in Up State .. me and my buddies were following the girls home shortly after that and she confronted me about writing it in lemon juice ... of course i denied it and that was the end of my infatuation daze ... great poem .. simple and real .. love reading

I wonder if Judy and Rosemary might have been friends...was she mad that you might have written it?

Ahh, young love, eh? Everyone has a Judy to remember. Mine was a Jennifer... It must be a J thing with us guys, err Jacob! 😊
I remember her smile like it was yesterday and barely remember her without a big beautiful smile on her face.
I'm sure she almost knew I loved her too, but ever since we went to big school at the age of eleven, have never saw her again.
But that's the price we paid for growing up in an Internetless age, without mobile phones and constant connection in your pocket.
But why do we miss it so much if its the answer to all that ails us?
