What we are left with

What we are left with

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

What we are left with

the book is opened

to page 253

the long novel of his life,

the book mark lies on the shag carpet

of his existence,

the reading lamp

burnt out

they found him that way

the last words he read were:

"..............."

We all run out of time, of words to write and to read. In the end, we're found, with things we loved doing but doing them no more. This is such a sad poem, my friend. It speaks to me of how quietly it all ends. Nothing shakes or shatters. The '....' extending into the unknown.
