destination's umbilical

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

destination's umbilical

a windward, wayward, westward traveler
the poet lays a foundation
he or she drags along the trail
the weight of words
and waiting for words
into sonnets
out of haiku

poems colored Blue
the trip, a pragmatic journey
from birth to girth
to worth
death writes the final line

a poet recites, incites
invites
etymology, empathy
camaraderie

friends of the pen
unite to fight
complacency
never contrite
they write on
and on
and...

And then when the mythical one appears, do we set our pens down and enjoy our retirement?
No, we think that if we finally reached writings pinnacle once, then how could we dare to think of ending it, just I'm case it's the start of a long overdue roll!

I love the opening that speaks to me of fishing and poetry is fishing for that bite of a reader who takes the bait and runs with it. Some spit it out and most ignore it but every once in a while comes a bite and a fish is landed. Haiku to sonnet and from there where epic poem? Oh yes the cycle of life for a poem the same as us many die prematurely and some linger in the whispers of progeny poorly remembered but in bits and pieces. Diversity is the key to poetry just as it is to emotions a balance is needed. And write on I do it is my daily therapy for almost a year now a daily poem. A lovley write Jacob
