Slowly, Melting Away

Slowly, Melting Away

A Poem by Barbara Walker
"

Written about a relationship I was in years ago.

"
You'll play games in your own head,
making up scenarios
and reading all the lines.
You wrong me, again and again and again.
What of my heart?
What of my soul?
You are the one, chipping away,
ice pick to ice cube,
till my love and trust,
become tiny slivers, one day,
slowly, melting away.

Years of pick, pick, picking take their toll. It is like emotional erosion. What is worn away by ceaseless friction cannot be restored.
